Wms Flash; another one for the resto que
« on: July 20, 2010, 10:00:21 PM »
G'day all $!&

I picked up yet another game this evening.. yes another one to add to the restoration list, and yet another wishlist title.. Williams Flash $#$

A mate of mine picked this one up about 6 months ago for $500 not working, and at that time i was very envious and tried to get it off him, (i even offered more than twice what he paid.. but he wouldnt budge at that time!!) Well since then circumstances for him have changed heaps, and he finally offered it to me... YAY!!

and all i have to do to earn it is a full cabinet respray on a Stern Galaxy that i currently have in my garage that i repaired for him... pretty sweet deal me thinks!!

anyway a few pics.. here are the cab and backbox sitting in my garage.. not in too bad condition, but it will get the full treatment eventually after i get it up and running *%*

Backglass pics;

some flaking paint along the bottom, and in the girl's attire, plus some fading of the yellows and in the name.

i have already formed a plan of attack for this damage *%* *%*

Playfield pics; plus the coin door that the previous owner had removed, he had made a start on the game, cleaning things up, including the PF.

The PF really is in great condition for its age. some wear above the right flipper, and a few warped inserts that i'll have to straighten

Under the playfield; some burnt coils on the drop targets that i'll have to replace, and no doubt there will be a few shorted transistors on the driver board as well.

I plan to get the game up and running first of course before doing the full resto, which will be a fair way off btw.. there are a few games in the que ahead of this one. I have five machines in the que now! plus ones im restoring or repairing for other people. Martin, who i got this game from also owns the wildfyre pf im currently doing.

Looks like a tired game in need of your magic, Mitch !

Flash is a REALLY enjoyable WMS game - and it will come up a treat. I was lucky enough to have a backglass that had no typical red fade in the "Flash" name.

Looking forward to the resto (so I can steal some ideas %.% <.>). Seriously though Flash is a ripper of a game when cleaned and setup fast and steep. Put it on hardest settings and it's a killer game, and bloody hard to beat.
The reds in my backglass were nearly gone also, put 50c worth of red selophane (how's that spelt !@# !@)) behind the word FLASH, about 8 layers or so, and it come up a treat. I have a few backglass ideas just no time ATM.

Will be watching with interest to see your backglass ideas. ^^^

Im going to have to order some new glasses myself i think just need to build up a parts list big enough to be worth the postage.   I stole a glass from a dud bally unit to test a Master display and broke the left hand corner off it i was really pissed off then realised that digit is not used and it still worked man i was lucky.
