Molex pins crimp type advice required
« on: October 04, 2010, 11:03:26 AM »
Looking at getting some crimp on molex pins.
Our regular suppliers seem to have two types,
.156" Trifurcon brand  or:
.156 K.K. Connectors SOCKET 18-20AWG molex

Anyone got any tips on what they use?
Is there a difference in quality between the two items or is it just a brand difference.

The way the Trifurcon brand are written up it sounds like they are of a better design.

"Trifurcon" refer to the type of connector pin. Three sides of the pin will make direct contact with the header pin - more surface area = better connectivity.

I only use trifurcon pins with the exception of GTB SYS 1 / 80 boards.

On a side note .... What brand / type of crimper is best to use with Molex pins ???  I've looked into it but got myself totally confused with all the different types available .

I use a 1028CT Crimp Tool 14-24AWG. This does the .100 and .156 commonly found in pinball machines.

Both our sponsors should carry this crimper

Don't know which is best, but I use a Waldom WHT-1919 which is a bit cheaper and seems to work ok.

Think that is the one that Greg has (RTBB)
Thanks for everyones answers, got the trifurcon ones you said Nino, and fixed the 9 pin for my playfield lights that was giving me jip.  What a difference, fixed a heap of what I thought were globe issues.
Now all I need is a new set of eyes to use when I crimp the damn things!!
Will now look at all my boards and see if there are any others with issues.
