Cue ball Wizard "Double" lights do not work
« on: November 19, 2010, 09:59:53 PM »
Hey guys, I picked up a Cue ball Wizard machine just recently and have only just managed to have some games on it. After playing it a few times I noticed that all the lights on the "Double" feature which is located on the Apron do not work. As this is the first Gottlieb machine that I have owned and still a novice with pinballs it all looks a little foreign to me :)

I was just wondering if anyone knows if it is just a simple case of bad globes or if it is something else. I have not had a chance to remove the apron just yet, but thought I would throw a post up.

Cheers.

Basic rule.. start simple and go from there... try globes first.. make sure its not blown.. then make sure you are getting contact with bottom of globe ( quick rub with sand paper to a shine) and also sides - again rub bright with sandpaper.. also squeeze in sides of holder slightly to give a tight grip. If still no go then move to next step

Yeah, might have a look under the apron tomorrow. Thanks for the advise. I just did not expect the globes to be blown as the pin was supposed to have had a look over and all globes and rubbers checked and replaced etc. But these things happen I guess

You'll find that it's actually a board with 6 led's on it and not incandescent bulbs.  Try reseating the connector on this board.

Ok, next suggestion. I have re-seated the plug on the board and nothing. The Wizard lights are working fine. Would this suggest a faulty board?

Depending on the conditions of the sale, you may well be able to go back to the seller and ask them to fix this?

Yeah, I have informed the seller and all this is covered. I am giving him a chance to rectify it. I was just hoping it was something simple, that I could fix. Again, it is just a little frustrating as the machine was sold as being looked over, complete working order, globes and rubbers replaced, but the more I get into it, I notice these things have not been done. I have discovered a screw missing from the cue stick, the inside of the cabinet is filthy, I would have expected it to have been cleaned. The outer cabinet was not even wiped down, now this. I have also asked the seller to send one of his technicians to me if required, as initially it was suggested I take it back to him, which I do not find practical and nor should I have to. I do believe the seller will fix the issues as he does communicate well, so I wont be naming and shaming :)

is it possible to swap the wizard and double LED boards over to see if it's a board problem, or a problem up stream?.

New boards are available from PBR.

Not sure, will check if they have the same lugs on the back and might try that.

Rod, pardon the dumb question, but what is PBR, as I am curious to see what a board will cost?

The Pinball Resource: http://www.pbresource.com/

Abbreviated to PBR due to first three letters of website URL, I imagine.

I had a look to see if I can change the boards around to see if it was the connectors or the board at fault, but they both have different connectors, so at this stage I am going to stipulate the board is damaged.
