Salvageable?? Looking for opinions
« on: November 25, 2010, 09:00:08 PM »
Hi Guys

I picked up this Gottlieb Aquarius Wedgehead today.
Its a bit of a mess with substantial weather damage to the playfield and lots of dry rot in the lower cabinet.
I am looking for opinions on whether it can be saved.
The one redeeming factor of this machine is the backglass is near perfect, not really in sync with the rest of the machine.
The previous owner assured me that it worked but couldn't get it started at the time.
I did get it cheap though $0.

When you look at some of the restorations on this site, I think you could say salvageable!

Whatever your decision, it has cost you nothing so far. I would see this as a challenge and sink my teeth into it without hesitation. The hardest component to restore would be the backglass, and that looks perfect. This is a great opportunity to learn som "involved" and time consuming resto techniques.

Please don't part it out - this machine is an awesome restoration candidate. I hopefully look forward to the restore thread !

Probably the biggest challenge would be the playfield. It might not be 100% visible in the photos but the playfield is quite badly delaminated.
But your right, lots of solid colours.
I can't see too much of a problem with the lower cab, I would probably just make a new one.
I did laugh when I first saw it, as the base is missing and the power switch was just dangling by the wires - hehehe.

I would love to see this saved, and I know there are lots of guys here who will help to make it happen, they did when I took on such a project. Go for it!!

Definitely.

Even if you have to rebuild the cabinet.

The playfield looks ok, and the wear appears to be on the block colour areas ratehr than the intriciate detail which always is a huge plus.

I have projects that I bought over five years ago that I will not give up on. This is a keeper IMO

Mate
If you have seen my posts, you will know all about me and Aquarius.
I have schematics and can send photos of mine.
If you don't go ahead, PLEASE PLEASE give me first go at the backglass - mine is only 5/10 and I've been looking for a better one for years.
