R.I.P. Gary Moore
« on: February 07, 2011, 09:46:41 PM »
I just learned of the passing of one of my all time favourite guitarists,
Gary Moore who played in Thin Lizzy, as well as having a solo career died yesterday aged 58, in his hotel room in Spain.

heres a link to one of his best known songs, as an example of how special a talent he was, who could make the guitar sing, cry, almost make it talk

I remember when "still got the Blues" was released and blew away all the glam/metal albums that were released at that time. Surely, one of the best guitar albums of all time, and a legend of a guitarist that played with feel and emotion.

Sad day indeed. The legends of Rock are slowly meeting up for one hell of a jam. This is one of my favorite "old school clips", and a reminder that "real" music will never be forgotten. R.I.P Gary Moore.

Great video clip. I remember Lizzy playing a free gig at the Myer Music Bowl at that time. They sure knew how to rock.
Corridoors Of Power is another darn good guitar album by Gary Moore.

Vale: Gary Moore

"After the War" is another one I love as well as all the above.
Same age as yours truly - but I only played shit by comparison.

RIP another great talent.

Yeah RIP Garry, he'll be sadly missed.

Its been a bad start to the year, what with Steve Prestwich out of Cold chisel and Harvey James out Sherbet.

Sad news indeedy.....my first introduction to guitar and inspiration to learn/play was from listening to EARLY Gary Moore....

Sadly everyone thinks he only has 1 or 2 'blues' albums out there, in fact he has around 40 albums, and the pinnacle would have been his 80's hard rock/metal era, although never mainstream enough for anyone to notice.

Grab yourself the following albums to get a REAL Earful of what the guy could really do, before resorting to blues to make it in mainstream market:
- Victims of the future
- Corridors of power
- Wild frontier
- We want Moore (live) - the best version of 'shapes of things' you'll ever hear ;-)
- After the war
- Run for cover
- Dirty Fingers

Of course he has a lot earlier stuff with G-force & Colluseum, fuzzy 60's experimental etc etc...

Enjoy!
