TRANSFORMER HELP 110v/230v COMBO
« on: June 02, 2011, 01:46:47 AM »
Hope someone may have a pict of this early Gottlieb (1964) transformer or may be able to help with correct connection. Dont have a problem with the straight USA 110v to stepdown transformers but this one is a all in one 110v/230v job & wires have been snipped (refer picts) The bottom terminals are numbered 1-4 but cant understand the wording TIE 1-2 etc - Does this mean they have to be bridged/soldered together ? Need to know which one's have to be bridged & which terminal the live/neutral wires go. Have no schematics. Should be the same setup with a machine with this all in one transformer.

240v goes to 1 and 4. (Active goes to 1, neutral goes to 4.)  Bridge 2 to 3 (solder a wire from 2 to 3)

What he said

Solder the Active (red or brown) to 1
Solder the Neutral (black or light blue) to 4
Solder a bridge/link between 2 and 3

240v goes to 1 and 4. (Active goes to 1, neutral goes to 4.)  Bridge 2 to 3 (solder a wire from 2 to 3)
just to be clear to any one else who refers to this, A. make sure the machine is unplugged from the 240v power outlet. & B. when we say 'bridge' between 2 & 3 we mean solder a wire across these two terminals not solder a bridge rectifier.

Also I dont think they used MOV's back then but in solid state machines when they did use them, make sure it is changed to a 275 volt MOV.

I think you may also have to change the value of the mains fuse. Can some one confirm this please. If you do then you will have to half the value of the current fuse they used for 110v and make sure it's a slow blow type, rated at 240 volts. again check this with the machine unplugged from the wall.

Yes - main fuse needs to be changed... the wattage value of original and new should be the same

The reason why i asked this is because on a williams  sys 11 machines when changing it to 240v you need to change the fuse to a 4 amp from the 8 amp fuse that was used for 110v
