Gottlieb Surfer Restore
« on: August 21, 2011, 01:51:55 PM »
Hello, this is the first pinball machine that I have been able to work on. I have already replaced all the rubber bands and did a lot of cleaning. I found out that to get it working I have to fix the score board to reset back to zero. I guess my question is, where does one start when troubleshooting a scoreboard.

p.s. I also can't find decals anywhere to purchase. Is there a underground pinball site that I just haven't found yet? Any advise would be much appreciated.

Not sure what you mean by 'decals'.  Assuming we are talking about the 1976 Gottlieb SURFER, is it the cabinet art work you require?  These were painted directly onto the cabinets back in those days.  If you contact Gavin (Retropin) of Flipper Rescue http://www.flipperescue.com/ he is the licensed Aussie manufacturer / distributor of Gottlieb stencils...

As far as the trouble shooting goes, have a read of http://users.esc.net.au/~boots/Pinball_Guides/default.html

I mainly need a decal for the spinner in the middle of the playfield and the metal plate behind the flippers that has the instructions. As for the stencils on the side, It's in good enough shape to where if I do decide to repaint it, I could probably make my own stencil.

As for the scoreboard, that thread was exactly what I needed, I really appreciate you taking the time to do that.  #*#

Hi mate, welcome to the forum.

With the artwork for the surfer / surf champ spinner refer to this thread (one I started because I needed a surfer / surf champ spinner), though you may not be able to see it because you need 20 posts to be ables to see the parts wanted / for sale section - so post on to check out.

With the cabinet decals I have traced over the cabinet painted graphics, had them scanned and in the slow process of electronically drawing the design up so in the future can cut stencils (1 offs for restore because currently I have not found these for sale).

Did you purchase this one recently ( last 2 weeks) off ebay by any chance?

This one has been in my granddads basement for as long as I can remember. I am just restoring it for fun. One side of the spinner is in good enough shape to scan, but the other is pretty worn. I will try to post it later.

Thanks, that's  awesome, that solves the apron decals then.

back to the scoreboard, when I turn the game on,the score tries to reset back to zero, but the tenth and ten thousandth digits don't budge. Could it be a solinoid issue.

Gday and Welcome to AP.

The reason for the reels not trying to reset could well be dirty or out of adjustment switches on the reels themselves.

I need more room ! and more $$$

+1 for Pinball Rescue apron decals.  I have just purchased one for my Bally Delta Queen, and I am 100% satisfied with the quality and look of the apron decal.

Is there a tutorial on how to clean and adjust switches?

I don't believe that it is set to private or anything, but here are a couple pictures.

p.s. you have to copy the whole url for it to work.
