Triacs ain't triacs
« on: December 14, 2011, 06:52:27 PM »
Still frigging with the t2 but reckon its a triac. I bought from rtbb p/n 5131-12725-00 but on the chip it says Bta12-6008.

The part on my pcb is BT138-500E. I noticed pinballspareparts has the same part number but with the BT138-500E printing.

Is my rtbb one ok to put in? I don't want to go to the trouble of changing the component to find its not suitable.

Also while I'm on the subject. This triac mounts onto a heat sink that seems to have paste between it and the sink. Can I use the stuff the use between fans and cpus or do I need to buy some?

    it will be a BTA12-600"B" not "8"

They are rated at 12A 600V (see what the markings mean now - "12" for 12 Amp and "600" for 600 Volts)

The original BT138-500E is rated at 12 Amp 500 Volt

So the one you have is a superior device and the pinout is identical to the original - it will drop straight in.

The heatsink transfer compound can be pretty well anything - the stuff used for PC heatsinks is fine.

Just be aware that the white heatsink paste is Carcinogenic, so try not to get it on your fingers (or wear plastic gloves) or simply dont lick your fingies....although it can absorb into your skin anyway....

So, BE CAREFUL with it....cancer sucks !!!

Heatsink compound these days is safe. Many moons ago it was dodgy but that has long been fixed
