Help needed with Creech .. FIXED
« on: February 26, 2012, 10:40:38 AM »
Gday all.

Noob questions as this is my 1st DMD .

1) How do you support the playfield when you lift it up ?

2) The ball is not returned until machines goes into ball search mode whenever you shoot either the snack bar hole, the Kiss lane or the Film lane.  (probably as a result of being moved halfway across Sydney) .
Could this be caused by a single connector being loose in the back box?

Lift the PF up at the front until it clears the front of the cabinet and then slide it towards you until you hear two positive 'clicks' - it is now latched in a safe position.

Then you swing the PF vertically and over to rest on the backbox OR use the stay bar screwed to the inside of the cabinet into a hole provided in the underside of the PF.

To fold away - pull the PF back down to a 'just raised' position at the front and the catches release automatically and you can silde the PF backwards into the cabinet and then down at the front.

In addition to what Mike said I always remove the balls before raising the playfield. Very easy to smash things on playfield.

Re the switch prob, go into test mode and switch levels.

Thanks Mike  ^^^ .
I've since realised the manual is on IPDB  &^& so have downloaded it and see the diagram showing what you've just explained  .

Will have a look at the schematic to see if I can see the common denominator to my lost ball problem .. will also run through the test menu to see if that tunrs up anything

Still looking at why machine goes into ball search whenever ball is shot into centre trough (Snack bar) , left through (Taillight Park) or right through (Playground).

Common demoninator seems to be column 5 (green/black wire) (J206 pin 5) .
Open the backbox to find nothing plugged into J206 (WTF ?? ) or J208 on CPU board , and no sign of connectors not plugged in but it looks like there are hacks in the wiring of this game

OK .. have realised switch column is plugged into J207 and switch row plugged into J209 , but manual says these sockets are not used ?

Anyone care to comment ?

A very, very, VERY (did I say very yet) common problem is 'U20" on the MPU board. Symptoms are one switch row is not driven by this chip.

only takes a nano-second for a semiconductor to be damaged.....a flashover of a contact etc will do it. I would change it before spending any more time on it (make sure you fit a socket for next time).

On the subject of this MPU we are redesigning it here at Homepin and adding circuitry to prevent this common issue. We will probably get rid of U20 altogether.

is it an opto problem?
do all optos have 12v going to them?
cant remember if the ball trough on these have optos but if they do you might have a bad connection on the opto transmit board or a bad solder joint.
I have only speed read through this post so sorry if i am leading you up the path. i dont have much time to read any thing properly lately as i am snowed under in board repairs  ^&^  :lol

The right through switch is an Opto . As this is my 1st DMD and my next newest game is Firepower, all this stuff is new to me .

I will check if the Opto has power .

Thanks Beaky
