The movie is fantastic.... Peter Jackson sure knows how to make a film.. some of the scenes just blew me away with the cinematography.

Its a dark film though so why anyone would expect anything but dark for the cabinet artwork is beyond me.

..Will be keeping an eye on the games progress as the details are released over the next year or so ( pin ties in with ALL 3 HOBBIT films).

LCD screen??? - Dunno, but then again i dont like the large flat screen we now have to have in the house either... apparently the LCD incorporates more than clips and the animations we have come to expect from DMD... im told its mainly for the entertainment of those NOT playing the game but are standing around watching, its been recognised that the player will be too busy keeping a ball alive.

WOZ is soon to be shipped and then we will be able to judge the JJP recipe... right now, we have only be fed what Jacks wants us to be fed.. plenty more to come me thinks

It doesnt mean they HAVE to go with a really dark cabinet because the movie is dark in places. It looks very sombre to me.
I would have liked to see a different take on the cabinet artwork with it being alot brighter and clearer. But as said before, the movie licencing people have tied JJP's hands on this one.
It looks soo much like the Stern LOTR, which is why i would have gone a different route, espescially if Stern rereleases the LOTR pinny again..

Darkish movie doesnt mean it has to be a dark cabinet. Bright n more colour is usually more appealing than everything looking like its night-time....

Sweet! Finally an update.
First impressions...I really like what I see. Colours and artwork are true to theme and far better than LOTR - IMO

Reminds me of another "dark" looking machine along similar lines.......

I wouldn't be surprised if it is a mock up cabinet as it has the motion picture wording and then along the bottom is a story in a single line - could be wrong. At least it appears to have a bit more detail.

I do not get why people have an issue with TH looking like LOTR
one is a prequal to the other, the characters are (mostly) the same, the movies look similar

Um, I think that the comparison is not about the similarity, it's about the criticism of it being dark, and that there have been dark games before, ie LotR.

I guess if it were different then there would be some valid criticism. With the two cabinets next to each other, "The Hobbit" is a standout. Almost reminds me of the detail of ToM. The more I see, the more I like.

I have not seen TH yet, but I do understand that most of the action does not occur on a sunny beach

There was a rumour that Jack had bought a Black Hole to have it reversed engineered for the Hobbit .

Do not believe rumours, because in actual fact it's heading to my place LOL. :lol

What has surprised me is that the local distributor has not gotten a list of  Australian WoZ buyers from Jack and gotten out there and be promoting this machine

Not surprising at all. There has been ZERO promotion of WOZ or Hobbit. No one in Australia outside of forums knows anything about these games.

I like the artwork - it is consistent with LOTR as the theme is basically the same. So no surprises there. The more I see that big ugly LCD, the less interest I have in buying a JJP. They need to revert back to a smaller screen. If I want to watch cut scenes, I'll watch the movie. It is a pinball that should not have distractions away from the playfield except to check your scores or play the "video mode".

Early pictures (lower cabinet) look great.
