new sterns and surface mount

can new stern owners tell me if you have 2 main boards ,driver/mpu,full of surface mount components?or is this just very recent ie ac/dc ^&^

Dark knight mainly surface mount with some thru hole caps/resistors
Lotr-le some surface mount but mainly through hole tech.

I will get Andy(Beaky) to give me his honest opinion on the quality and design type of these boards in the AC/DC Pro and I will report back.

I will also compare them to the WHITESTAR branded boards in my Sega 1996 to 1999 models for their boards since they were also used/designed by same people.

should say all ic's are surface mount.not bridges,caps.

brett,there is no surface mount on tne sega's.they are an easy fix.

Jjp on the other hand has no surface mount and ics are socketed

I have warned about this previously.

Already we have issues such as a drop target PCB in Family Guy giving a lot of trouble but the part is no longer available.....

I will be working on making replacements (where economically possible) using through hole technology BUT even this is becoming harder daily. I am working on an electronic aviation project and one of the IC's we need to use is ONLY available as S/M so that is starting to be an issue.

Board repairs are going to become more hi-tech and will not be repaired by hobbyists in most cases without special tools and training I suspect.
