bally/stern backglass lock assemblies

what is peoples general consenses on these horrible mechs.
after changing the lock on my bally,i went about refitting the glass locking mech.only to have it then jam my new backglass.wtf.spent the last hour trying to free it,without breaking,the new  glass.

do people just leave these horrible mechs out,or is there are trick,method for adjusting these things.

please impart your thoughts on this horrible mechanical monster. ^.^ ^.^

I have found a couple of slightly different types, not much different, just enough to be tight on the glass
