Newbie from Sydney
« on: March 03, 2009, 11:28:50 PM »
Hi All
I am new to this forum and am thoroughly enjoying reading all the past threads.
I have purchased my first pinball a 1979 Stern magic that is in pretty poor condition and would love to restore it.
Im not scared to have a go at most things but an artist i am definetly NOT.
Not sure if anyone knows what the playfield artwork on the Stern magic looks like, but fixing it up is definetly beyond my skills.
To date i have sandblasted both the coin door and legs and had them both powdercoated they both came up a treat.
But unless i can have the playfield restored feel that it is pointless to go any further.
I would be really grateful if anyone could give me any tips,or ideas on who may be able to help and the approx cost
Attached is a few photos of the playfield.

Cheers

John

%)% faza. There are a few resident playfield touch-up experts on here. Have a browse through the restore threads and ask heaps of questions.

I didn't think that playfield looked too bad - nothing that a bit of careful Magic Eraser and a good polish wouldn't bring up well.

Thanks for all the replies
The design on the playfield is more artwork and i am not at all confident to attempt it.
If possible i would like clear coat it after it has been restored.
Since the photos were taken i have used magic eraser and it did improve a lot of the playfield, but it can't do much when the paint is missing.

Cheers

Hi Mate,

Welcome to AP.

That Shoot Again section is probably ‘do-able’.
As for the wear area’s around the inserts, tough call !!

As a start - have you got anyone ( maybe here on AP ? ) that can provide you with some decent size and decent resolution images of all those area’s so you can at least see what the art looked like before the wear??

And don’t stop a decent restore due to this – it aint ‘pointless’, it will still be a decent playable and clean machine once you are finished , even if you cant fix those ( relatively small ) wear area’s

Where in Sydney are you located?

I am happy to come have a look.
No promises of success - its just easier to suss things out in real life rather than photos sometimes.
