I understand these shows are "all the rage" overseas, but I don't understand the attraction. What I see is two guys driving around looking at previously loved items and offering a price to buy. They then bring it back to their shop. So they "pick" a pinball for $150, then "value" it at $400. But I've never seen the items SELL to anyone. To me, it is just an appraisal.

Is that how it works ?

That is pretty much it! The enjoyable part of the show for me is when they come across old interesting stuff. I admit it would be more enjoyable to follow the item thru to restoration then sale. I am sure there is another show which revolves around the restore part of this.

Agreed. More than likely the network also covers all of their everyday expenses crisscrossing the US countryside, since in reality they would be broke in less than 6 months (even with their so-called picking ability).

Take for example the Studebaker - picked for $2400 valued at $3400, they said it cost $700 to transport it back to the shop, so if they did absolutely nothing to it they might make $300.

You can't tell me they didn't have more than $300 worth of everyday expenses associated with picking that car.

Good entertainment value either way.

The shows are entertaining. It is a bit like the Home Renovation shops. The more people watch the show, the more people look into their garages and sheds, looking for valuable items. Also, it helps find buyers of rare and interesting articles. Everyone's a winner !

i luv the show also but it has created more competition with the average joe thinking they can do it, i have been buying and selling for ages but in recent times it is hard to make a buck.

It's funny isn't it, 12 months ago if you said you'd gone picking i'd have assumed you where talking about your nose!

Taped the show and had a look. They bought an Ali, Charlie's angels & big city??? Or sometime. I saw other titles there. Did they pick the right games in your opinion or were there titles that you would have snapped up before these?

I saw a couple of paragons and a playboy that I thought might fetch better dollars or am I wrong.
