Discharging a monitor

Need to discharge my broken monitor as a precaution, but I don't have au wire to attach to a screw driver etc. Was thinking of attaching a car battery lead. Would this suffice if it clamps on the screw driver. I'm guessing yes but please advise if you can see any problems

Bit of overkill - a thin cliplead is all that is required.

I wouldn't use it on a GOOD tube as you are risking damaging it humping a heavy cable near a fragile tube but for the broken one, go for it....and buy a metre of hookup wire next time you're at Jaycar   .

Hahaha I removed a chassis today and got a shock (first time ever)

  Even after that holding the screwdriver on the high tension lead it continued to lightly crack and spark for a good 5 minutes?????    And yes I had no spare wire either lol.

I have an old flat blade screwdriver that I have wound a long piece of household earthing wire around then all taped up to the handle of the screwdriver.
I only leave the end of the screwdriver exposed, that way the spark can't jump from the screwdriver to my hand (I have had this happen once before making this tool)
The end of the wire goes to an earthing point (away from my hands)

Thanks guys, did the jumper lead trick on the old broken monitor but will invest in some lighter gauge wire and a bigger screw driver for the existing and new monitors

holy crap ! I have a P2000, and now I'm scared of the bugger. Just start button and flippers for me. Head box sounds like a tombstone!
