What type of EPROM is it? Can you peel the sticker back a bit and see if it says 2716 or 2764.

Also need to know the part number off the board and the part number for the CPU board specified in the manual. 

You could also try the EPROM in the PROM 1 and if that doesnt work PROM 2 socket without the adapter board.  Can you post a picture of the CPU board?

For interest sake try it with and then without the adapter board in the prom 1 socket. (EDIT: Forget this the adapter is definetly for U3 socket)

Also are you sure the part numbers you PM ed are the only ones on the board?  Is the manual you have from this machine 'ROCK'?  If so what part number is the CPU board in the manual??

Also please tell me what jumpers are on the board?  Also from your photo it looks like IC numbers U17, U18, U19, U24, U25 and U26 are not installed, although this is not totally clear from the pics?  Can you cofirm these are the missing ICs and do they look like they were ever installed?  This will give me an idea of what version board you have?  Reason we need to know all this is to acertain where the EPROM should be installed and what jumpers may need modifying?  Reason is to acertain if someone has changed this board at some stage as System 80, 80a and 80b are not interchangable without modification due to the ROM used.

As such the board wont run if it is not jumpered correctly for your new EPROM.

Daniel,

In the ROCK manual what does it list at U2, U3 and Prom 1 on the parts for the CPU?

Some system 80b games used a system rom at U2 and/or U3 and a game prom at PROM 1.  We need to make sure your not missing the system ROM?  It is possible that the ROM you have been supplied does both, but without the manual I am not sure as I am not familure with this game?

Daniel,

The more I think about this, the more I think you are missing an EPROM.  Maybe you have the game prom as mentioned above that fits in the Prom 1 socket and are still missing the EPROM U3 that contains the system software??  The adapter board is definetly for U3.  You will need to confirm from PBR what EPROM they have supplied you.  Did you request U3?  Or did you request the GAME PROM.

I think you have the game prom and still need the U3 EPROM that fits in the adaptor and contains the system software.  Earlier system 80 and 80a had two chips at U2 and U3 and PROMs at PROM1 and / or PROM 2.  In 80b they got rid of U2 and added the adapterboard at U3.  But think ROCK would still need EPROMS at both U3 and PROM1.

I have email PBR to check, but maybe you should seeing as you purchased the eprom as they may respond to you sooner.  As I say I have not seen a ROCK and dont have the manual to tell you for sure.

PS.  On the System 80b machines that I have seen that only had the one EPROM at U3 the socket at PROM 1 was not installed.  Your picture shows a socket at PROM 1.  This is what makes me think that possibly this machine uses 2 EPROMS.  Anyway I could be barking up the wrong tree, but definatly worth checking with PBR to eliminate this.

Well I posted on rec games pinball and received a response that ROCK definatly has only one eprom at U3.

So we are back to checking other issues.  Did you have a chance to change the electrolitic cap?

Well Dean ive ordered the new U1 from Pinballspareparts ill desolder the original one and install the sockets ready for when it arrives if that doesnt fix it???  Well i think youve seen what i do to pinballs i cant fix lol
