EPROM's for Solid State games
« on: March 08, 2009, 11:30:01 AM »
Looking for a quantity of EPROM's for the early Bally Solid State games.

2532  -  20 or more
2716  -   5 or more
2732  -   7 or more

No worries if they are used and need to be erased.  Please let me know what you have available.

I really should dig out my container of salvaged chips and see what I have, shouldn't I? I knew these things would come in handy some day.

Good news - have found 9 x 2732. And 2 x 2764, and some 128s, 256s, 512s...

Bad news - no 2716 or 2532.

Hey, if you are burning ROMs, maybe you could burn me a Mousin' Around! set of game ROMs - current version is in German and I would prefer English.

Futurlec http://www.futurlec.com.au sell the 2716 new and cheap; try here for cheapish 2532s http://www.unitechelectronics.com/eproms.htm

Depending on the physical space on the PCB, it might be good to upgrade to the more popular 2764 (sold everwhere).

I've previously updated loads of my old eqipment (radio/comms, computers etc) using 2764's and never looked back.

I was looking for circuits to do the conversion form 2532 to 2732; they are available.

Given that the number of pins on a 2764 are more than on a 2732, is it much effort to convert?

There's not a lot different between 2764/2732, only some extra address or chip-select pins.
These can all be tied to Ground to act like a 2732 etc...

From memory, i *THINK* the 25xx series may use a +12v supply as well as +5v?....obviously you wouldnt connect 12V anywhere on the 2764....

One fantastic bonus is that you could squeeze 2 of the 2732 (or 4 of the 2716) game-roms into a 2764, then use an external switch to change your pin between 1 of 4 different gameplays.

No doubt you would also be upgrading a few other roms too.

This would be handy if you had a few different playfields for the 1 cabinet and simply enabled a different rom section for each different playfield....

Oh yeh, if you're into hacking the roms to modify gameplay (e.g. scores, multiball, bonuses etc) you could switch between the original and modified speedily too, instead of plugging the roms all the time, while testing your mods.
