RFM
« on: November 17, 2012, 06:23:20 PM »
Ok strange thing with my coils since updating my RFM. Went to 1.5 without a hitch BUT while playing all the playfield and flipper coils will turn off for a second but then resume as if nothing wrong. Noticed it first when my flippers would die when about to make a shot, re hit the buttons and no problems but later I noticed that the martians would also stop jumping when the flippers would shutdown then start up again moments later. Anyone else encountered this one?

board problem versus software me thinks....reseat all connectors to playfield/check every cable everywhere is on perfectly under playfield and in headbox...(who did u buy your RFM from ?)

also, have u checked your fan in your main computer metal box ?, has it been replaced with a new one or is it old...heat issues with the board can cause intermittent things to stop n start because of a hot board..thats what i always did with my RFM.

When I was looking at your RFM PC yesterday I should of mentioned I was a bit concerned about the fan & heat sink, due to age and being the original stock parts I would upgrade those 2 parts with some decent thermal paste as I can guarantee that the thermal paste will be rock hard underneath the heat sink and not doing its job that it should.
It may or may not be the major problem but it is a great start to making your RFM last a hell of a lot longer.
Inside your RFM PC is mint but that doesn't mean that things are to a point of needing replacement  ^^^

Ok Problem solved  %.% When doing the update and screwing in the cable by the access door I had inadvertently knocked the spade clip on the door isolation switch so it  was barely touching.  It would cause the coils to stop  during heavy vibration. All is good  %.%

Well done.  I'd still replace the cpu heat sink and fan if it hasn't already been replaced.  Also make sure that you use good thermal paste and not the white crap.
