Bally Flash Gordon Stencils

Hi guys,

 I'm after some Flash Gordon cabinet and back box stencils, does anybody have a set or know where you can buy them from? Also any help with the colours would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Color codes will be hard to find. You have pantone charts and pigment colors - it can be very confusing.

What you need to do to remove the front door trim. Just remove one side (3 carriage bolts) and you will see at least the original base color and possibly the yellow. Take the lower cabinet to a paint supplier and have them match the color and finish. Depending on how you wish to apply the paint, some suppliers can give you the colors in spray cans, or you can take it home in a can and spray with an spray gun. Most suppliers have a standard black, which is not the right finish. It needs to have the same finish (a semi gloss) as the gold (yellow) and red.

I'm picking it up next weekend so hopefully the colours are still there behind the door trim. I have a spray booth at work so will set up and do it there. Once I have the machine I'll see what else I need before taking it apart and getting started on the cabinet re paint and playfield swap. Thanks to the "playfield rotisserie" posts I've read recently, I'll make one of those up also. So I'm sure to have a lot more questions before I even get started on this one. Looking forward to it though.

Unfortunatly my cabinet has had a custom repaint at some stage in it's life the original colours are no longer behind the cabinet door trim. Are the red, gold (yellow) and black colours on the cabinet the same as the colours on the playfield? i have a CPR playfield which i could easily match the colours to.

Thanks for that. My existing back glass has been touched up a bit and is not as bright as it could be but I have a new one coming from CPR. How is the Gold/Yellow on the backglass compared to the playfield?  Compared to photos I've seen, the yellow on my playfield looks different to the gold on the cabinet. Its hard to tell from photos though.

He'll then fill the old game, smooth it over and paint over it. Not sure if it's possible with your Flash Gordon if it's been repainted, but thought I'd put it out there.

Thanks Adam, but mine currently has a custom paint job on it. Unfortunately it's nothing like the original. There is red on it but its defiantly not the right colour.

Thanks Humpalot, yours looks very nice,  I'm jealous.  The gold looks about the same as the gold which runs around the perimeter and frames the back glass (with mirroring in between). Would this be correct?

Any spray gold will do the trick.

Chances are that it is the stock standard red that Bally used around the time... after a few cabinet restores and stencil making, you quickly realise that the same colours are used over and over again.
I have a Capt fant cabinet here which i did some colour codes with. A donor cab which will become Capt fant is Nightrider... both have the same red and blue.. then i have a Bally Hi Deal here.. again.. same red.
Stencil paints were applied very very thinly which is why you cannot feel any edges to the paint on your cabinet... colour variation comes in with what it was sprayed over.
If your base colour is a yellow of sorts and you spray stock standard red over it then it appears as an orange... spray over a blue and it deepens quite a bit and takes on a purple effect...

... same stock standard red though.

Colour match i have for Bally RED is PANTONE 199C.

Which if i put through Corel and convert to CMYK is..
C=0, M=100, Y=69, K=0


RGB..
R = 219, G=34, B=67.

This colour is a red with an orange tint to it.

Any help to you??

Thanks very much for the offer Jonathan but I've since tracked some down. Now all there is to do is strip it down and get started.
