Bally Blackjack SS repair
« on: January 20, 2013, 07:24:38 PM »
Hi Folks, I am Jim, new to the forum and live in the UK
I recently bought a Bally BlackJack SS ( pictures here http://www.endofthepier.co.uk/blackjack.html )
I bought her as a project and it was pretty much lifeless at this stage. I dealt with a corroded MPU board and cleaned it up and soldered in the repair kit. I also fitted new capacitors to the solenoid driver board.
Things are better now to a degree but the LED on the MPU still doesn't illuminate at all. Intermittently it will begin to sequence through self test and go into the solenoid test sequence but stops on the 'stuck switch' sequence with a 0. I have uploaded a quick vid of all this to youtube here

I'd appreciate any advice at this stage!
Incidentally the MPU is a Stern board ( http://www.endofthepier.co.uk/stern%...00%20front.jpg ) and there is no chip above the one marked BJ6 is that right? I replaced the chip adjacent to the old battery which has now been replaced with a memory capacitor.
Thanks in advance, jim  %$%

Check the connectors to the MPU board. If the board had corrosion, you can bet the corrosion traveled on to the MPU board connectors AND the pins in the connector housings. You can check them just by looking at the housings. Sometimes the pins in the housings are broken, or GREEN.

That's where I would start.

http://www.endofthepier.com/stern%20MPU-100%20front.jpg I'll try that link again!

Have you got a photo of the board as it is now?
Then photo in the link has missing parts.

Just added a couple of photos at the bottom of this page http://www.endofthepier.com/blackjack.html after the repair kit fitted. The only thing I can possibly see missing is U1, but not sure if that was fitted for this game.
