A BIG Public thankyou
« on: September 05, 2009, 03:41:49 PM »
Hey all,

I had a thread about my WH20  lamp issues - here - http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?topic=2630.msg40562#msg40562

Along the way Owen ( Pinball Fixer ) was MORE than genourous with his time and 'pointers'.
Today PinballHQ took a few hours of his Saturday tested , researched then and installed a new transistor on the board for me ( something I could never do ).

Now works PERFECTLY and I learnt a little along the way too  #*#

SO a massive shout of thanks to both of these members from me - GREAT blokes $&&

Glad to help out Wotto!

So, what was the final culprit? I did suspect a transistor, but from what you had described it seemed more likely to be the IC first. My next suggestion was going to be Q91 (TIP107)...

And good stuff PinballHQ for sorting it out for Wotto!

Yes it was a TP107 mate  ^^^

Amazing how one tiny $2.00 part can confuse a Lamp Matrix so much  ^&(

Thanks Wotto,
No problem at all helping you out with this issue. It was a shorted TIP107 transistor (Q91) which someone had replaced before (badly) with a BD902. The fix took all of about 10 minutes, after we got hold of some suitable transistors.

I keep alot of spare IC's and transistors etc., but I didn't have ANY TIP107's around.  &^& After a bit of Googling, downloading datasheets for various transistors, and consulting the Jaycar catalogue, we found an equivalent to the TIP107 that Jaycar Wollongong had in stock (BD650 or BDX54C). A quick trip to Wollongong and back for Wotto and the repair was done.

All the IC's and transistors were tested in both the lamp columns and the rows and no other problems were found. #*#

Glad to hear that this has finally fixed the problem. The next job will be to fix up that set of missing header pins and hacked wiring on the bottom of the board.

Anthony

Ahhh, it all makes sense now!

You just can't use any old part... you MUST use the correct part, or an equivalent with matching specs! *%*

Cool to see guys helping each other out.

I'm glad the more learned among us don't mind helping out and sharing a little knowledge around.

I for one have never met nicer people than in the pinnie community.
