Actually I know some rich guys who give a LOAD to charity and keep that on the quiet - a lot of rich people do that - sure some dont.
AND then they still enjoy thier toys.
So its a win win really 
That's the fundamental difference between 'the nouveau riche' and 'the genuinely wealthy'.
As you alluded to, you can spot them a mile away in the way they conduct themselves, the former is conspicuous, whilst the latter is discreet.
Plus the former typically doesn't last beyond one generation, whilst the latter does.
