What you paid for them originally isn't any concern to a potential buyer.

Clearly you've purchased these games as keepers, and not to resell down the track.

If you did buy them to sell down the track, you've over capitalised with the improvements something fierce.

although 3 grand is better than what TV1 offered for the FH


but it comes back to whats a game worth

and how are you pricing it
dealers - average prices
ebay- what the last one sold for
container pin- (like Wayne does)
whats your base line that guides your pricing

don't get me wrong I don't buy games to "Flip".     I buy them as keepers

Since I've never bought a working, reconditioned, restored or redecalled DMD, I would find it difficult to VALUE them. "Value" dictates price and the amount of work put into the machines dictates the "value".

Private eBay sale prices differ from Dealer prices for very good reason and the price can tip the scale either way. The term "reconditioned" or "restored" is used just as much as "rare" and "collectible". Private sales from Collectors will snag the "A" list and 9/10 machines. Be prepared to pay for them ! There are only one or two dealers that can TRULY say the machine is "reconditioned". Most sell straight off the container with a quick clean and then your troubles start. But the perception is that because the machine was CHEAPER - that's their "market" price. What you don't know - are the costs to have the machine running to YOUR standards. Yes - We all want 9/10 machines, but they are NEVER the cheapies, and they are 9/10 machines AFTER spending MORE money and effort on them.

I don't really price machines, because there are too many variables. I recall a Centaur in Melbourne that sold for $5400, and it was "average" at best. Within a week, a dealer "cleaned" their Centaur ( a much better machine) and it struggled to $3500. Then two more appeared and by then, the horse had bolted. They would sell at their TRUE Value of around the $1800 mark. This was maybe four years ago ? That original $5400 Centaur would be LUCKY to make it to $1600 today.

Gun's'Roses is a classic example - Used to sell for $6000 - $7000. Not just the one or two - That WAS the selling price because that WAS what someone wanted to pay, and then someone else, and then another etc... What are they WORTH - $4000 tops ? - I can just see a seller - " No I cannot take your $7000 - it is only worth $4000)..

Addams Family - Only seen ONE sell for $3500 in GOOD condition. Seller needed the cash desperately. Sold for $6000 two weeks later (3 years ago?) - So what is the market value ??

CV - Redecalled worth $6000+. End of Story. NEVER seen them for less than $4000 as a project machine - and I looked for one for 2 years. They WERE selling EASILY for $7000 3 years ago.

Also - I hear the word "mint" quite often with DMDs. I think I've seen my "fair share" of DMDs and I think I've seen one or two "mint" DMDs.

Machines are not drying up "overseas", and if you look hard enough, you will find them. Don't just rely on eBay !

There will never be a true market price on machines because the quality can not be standardized. We all want 9/10 machines at the cheapest possible price. For me, I'd rather have a 9/10 "B" title than an 6/10 "A" title for twice the price.

Just some random thoughts as there is some disparity in the prices which is to be expected.

definately some real good points made in the last ten posts.   

i guess the old rule of "if ya want the best, ya have to pay for it" applies.

those enhancements Greg- RTBB was talking about cost money. To match all those enhancements is going to cost a grand, all day long.

and if you were to sell those machines, and ask your price, you would get it, no problem, cause we all know what a basic machine costs in great nick, plus the time to shop it, plus the cost of all the upgrades equals ya top dollar machine, regardless of title.

People say, for example a Fishtales is a 2200 or 2500 machine. Go and do every known enhancement to it, redecal it, new glsss, plus ramps n plastics and all the good stuff, and all of a sudden you have a top shelf, as good as it will ever get machine. Would someone pay 3700 to 4 grand for it, since it would be considered the very best example of a fishtales u could find, no problems i reckon. quality costs.

its a bloody great hobby when you can show off a machine and people say, "Fark thats nice, I want it" ! even if its top dollar. Great friggin hobby we have !
