Ok, here is the official result...

The powerball is approximately 25% lighter.

Power ball weighs 64 grams
Steel ball  weighs 82 grams

I was told my powerball is original when I purchased pin, and I believe that to be true looking at the condition of the ball. 
Original powerballs go a pearlesent shade as they get older, compared to reproductions which tend to go a grey colour.

Thanks for that, it pretty much confirms my thoughts. The ball in mine when I had it was certainly lighter, although I never played it. And I saw the ball in yours which looked the same as mine did, and I am guessing mine was original too.

OK I have an original ceramic Powerball in my TZ. I just went to the enormous trouble of sticking it on my little digital scale . . . . . 61 grams. Steel ball 78 grams (Almost 28% heavier) Incidentally, mine was a dull grey pill, but against 'net type advice I buffed the bastard about a year ago and have never looked back. I agree that TZ can be a cantankerous game but it still richly deserves its (usually) No.1 status in the world!

Thanks guys for your input on that one.

Hope that helps, Matthew. If you get the chance to weigh your recently purchased powerball you will be able to compare it to the original. By the way, guys, is the powerball the same size as a steel ball?

Certainly the lighter powerball (65g) is available overseas as per links provided earlier; Maxwiz it sounds like your scales need adjusting as they are most likely 3-4g out.

today Ian decided to re arrange the spare parts room and we found 3 power balls  brand new. these came from Bally
I will adjust web site when I get back .

will load pictures of the spareparts room when I get back   never thought I had so much stuff LOL

Yeah, I popped in this afternoon but you were already gone - Ian showed me his work and it is looking very tidy.
