PIN*BOT, playfield swap
« on: July 16, 2012, 08:14:32 PM »
Game; PIN*BOT
Manufacture; Williams
Year; 1986

I bought this game a few years ago
It worked, but was in bad shape
I had started taking it apart four or five years ago, with the idea of touching up the areas where the paint had worn off. Then CPR announced that they were reproducing the playfield, so the game has sat half torn down since then

I had taken a lot of photos but they have gone missing over the years, the only few I have are a handful I had uploaded to Photobucket.
Thankfully, PIN*BOT is a favorite title to restore so there are many other sources of pictures on the internet

One new tool that I have been trying to get the hang of is a polishing wheel for the larger parts
Through a little trial-and-error, I have polished up the large guides from the top of the playfield

I have been busy cleaning up the flipper mechs

As with most flippers, these were extremely dirty
Using a polishing wheel I have brought it back to nice and shiny
I had planned on only replacing the switchblades, coil and the plastic flipper bearing, but after cleaning I felt that the flippershaft had mushroomed too far,
The stopper at the back of the coil was loose, so that was also replaced

As the dimpling on this playfield is a little off, I will be fitting each mech prior to moving the wiring harness

It is "always the way" - you start with one small detail, and suddenly everything around it needs attention until you are completely satisfied.

Good work, Pete  *%*

Loving the update so far Pete love seeing buffed parts.  My buff would be the most used tool on my restores I think.   Keep the updates coming

I like the tumbler, but prefer the results of the polishing wheels
Plus I seem to be using it to wind down after work
Just need to install a net to catch the parts when I loose my grip :p

Shiny is nice :)

Just a heads up, you're using the wrong coil stop. The original and proper coil stop for a Pinbot is the WMS A-12111, which has a brass colored center. You have the A-12390 coil stop fitted.

This will change the length of the flipper 'travel' and will not play as original.

Thanks
I will get the right part next time I place an order for parts
the plunger I have on hand is a couple of mm's to long as well
