Embryon
« on: September 16, 2012, 09:31:41 PM »
I have a new addition to the collection and have been spending a little time tweeking here and there to get this baby running the way it should. When purchased one display was faulty, the middle 3 captive ball chamber flashers were not working and the top left hand plastic was missing.

Display is fixed via resistors, transistor and decoder chip
Flashers fixed via reflowing solder on small pcb pins
New plastic cut for missing piece and have a complete set of plastic scans for the machine. So will print a decal for this plastic
Adjusted pops and rollover switches and she plays perfectly. Even pretty fast for a widebody via back legs set to max height and front leg to the lowest.

I will try to touch up the worn top section, but will probably leave to mylar alone for the rest of the playfield. So no clearcoating I think.

The apron needs a tidy up and the cabinet could do with a repaint but I don't know if its worth going to too much trouble for this type of machine. I don't know what something like this done to near new would be worth on average. These two items I'm guessing would cost around $300 and time alone.

Any comments would be greatly appreciated and here are a few photos with a flash so the colours may be a touch washed out.

BTW embryon is not a bad player with a bit to do. Games can be somewhat long and that means clocking the score on occasions. Definitely a candidate for 7 digit display. The captive balls are a challenge and getting multiball isn't a gimme but not difficult if you have the shot skills.

Interesting outlane configuration and the little flipper save on the right. Good playfield lighting as well. Sound is pretty basic but really suits the game and is not annoying IMO

Anyway more photos for those that haven't seen this title

Awesome pick up !  ^^^

Bally made some cool widebodies. The only one I don't like is Future Spa. Embryon is a rare and challenging game. Sits well with Space Invaders. The outlane configurations are a bit different and add to the "strange" character of the game. The only thing I would change would be the system 11 legs need to go !

Are you saying that's the legs on my game? If so that's ok as I changed them while I redo the the originals. But now I'll have to look at these to see if they are different to what I put on.

Let me know Nino if this is the case. Thanks

Actually, they are Bally / Williams lags on the game - which are incorrect.

You need these ;

Aaaaaah... how i would like this in my line up.
I see a corner of my room like this:

SPIRIT... EMBRYON...XENON... FATHOM.
Then right next to FATHOM ill have a GTB ATLANTIS.

Beeeaaauuuutiful machine.  Definitely a RARE title, and looks to be in great condition all around!  Would love to have a crack at this one, never have played one let alone seen one in the flesh.
