BALLY base WHITE

Im mixing the paint for my Capt Fantastic cab respray and just wanted to demonstrate something to all restorers.
Its easy to look at a cabinet and tell yourself that it is white base with red and blue features.. your brain will trick you and tell you what you want to hear rather than the actual colours.
Ive just mixed 1ltr of the base white for this game. I kept a sample of the cabinet from under the door trim to match samples.

Here is my colour match.. its spot on.



And here is the litre of paint against a tin of white..



Remember... There is no such colour as white on a pinball machine.

Base colour for BALLY EM is actually green.

It is surprising, I remember how 'off' white the paint was when Nick's brother colour matched the Volley I restored. Would look terrible if you used bright white.

There was no standard white, nor finish on Ballys or Gottliebs.

As with any manufacturing process, the cabinet painting was sometimes outsourced, or paint suppliers changed through the years. I've seen factory black a shade more gloss than base finishes. KISS has more of a semi gloss than Eight Ball. Fathom is almost a flat, as is Medusa. Pro Football is a cream, Ice Review is an off white. I'm not surprised that the base may have been green for Captain Fantastic. Maybe it was what the supplier had lying around !
