Bally-Midway MotorDome
« on: February 23, 2014, 09:50:21 PM »
Since July last year it feels like my entire life as been revolving around pinball. I've been designing and producing our video-pin systems and flat-pack cabinets and spending a rather large amount of time at a particular pinball parts dealer down this end of the world.

It was only a matter of time before I "pulled the pin" (sorry, couldn't help it) and dived into the world of mechanical pinnies. ie The Real Thing :)

I've bought a couple of junkers and project pins with the purpose of learning how these creatures actually work, recondition those that are mostly complete and parting out those that are too far gone.

First off the block is a Bally-Midway MotorDome.

I've attached a few pictures both on and off without the playfield glass to give an idea of what condition it's in.

The first thing I noticed was there was a broken wire on the left flipper coil. Since the left flippers aren't responding I was hoping it would be an easy fix.

Of course not! I've included a photo of the flipper microswitch as I've discovered something strange. If you short out the left flipper switch, the right lower bumper goes off.

Oh, and it's in German. Haven't found how to change the language yet.

First step: I got the manual. Now the fun really begins!

6803 games are interesting machines. To change to English you will need to change the ROMs - U2 and U3 from memory.

You will need to have 2 ROMs burned to replace the German ones.

ROMs are here - http://www.ipdb.org/machine.cgi?id=1633

If you do not have an Eprom Burner, then you can contact either BEAKY or SKYBEAUX who both offer Eprom Burning services  ^^^

PMs sent. Thanks for that.

Silly question time. Why the double leaf switch on the flipper button?

I haven't looked at the schematics or traced the wires yet, but I was wondering, in a nutshell, what the point of the two switches is?
