Swinks Custom Shooter Knobs
« on: April 20, 2015, 04:50:17 PM »
For anyone that wants to customise their game with themed metal shooter knobs, check these out

https://www.shapeways.com/search?q=swinksshooter

For starters here are:
Gear Shift Pattern - car themed pins,
$ Pattern - money themed pins
WW Pattern - wrestling pins

Simply purchase a blank shooter rod from Pinball Life and epoxy into the knob and you are good to go or paint in the recesses of the logo's to personalise the knob even more. The knob is approximately 33.5mm in Diameter so just a nice size with a wedge recess in the end of the hole for the epoxy glue to wedge into.

Finishing today is a 10% sale off Shapeways gear.

Swinks, just looking thru Shapeways site & had 2 qns. Why are some "beta"? (are they still being refined?). & on the wire insertion tool is there a guarantee? cheers Andy.

I test print everything at home so I am fairly confident and the Beta is my double check that that I want to ensure that everything is good and once shapeways proven I remove the Beta.

No guarantees because I am not making the final items, as I purely make the designs publicly available but I tested the tool on a few different types of IDC fittings and seated the wire firmly into place. I had more trouble with ones available from trusted pinball parts supplies and they are throw away plastic jobs nor guaranteed. The metal tip is SS so sure it will last a very long time.

I recently got one of my gear shift plunger knobs made and painted the recessed sections green to blend in with the Creech theme since the idea is you are going to the drive in.

The knob is a nice size and really comfortable and all you need is to order from shapeways and then get a plunger rod from Pinball Life and epoxy glue in place.

I have a prototype World Wrestling WW plunger knob in and with 1 of 3 coats of red glossy acrylic painted in the detailed areas if anyone is interested at $60 for a AP member. It will come with a plunger rod fitted plus postage, just haven't epoxied in the rod just yet.

Head to this link if you want to create your own custom worded plunger, though you are restricted to 5-6 letters (lower case) 4-5 letter (upper case).
You could put in your initials, the game initials like IMVE, game titles HULK or KISS, or brands like Stern, Bally etc. There is only one font to use and from there you have a custom shooter knob for $40-$45 depneding on material selected.

To make the engraved section pop simply paint in the lettering and wipe off the excess with a cloth.

https://www.shapeways.com/product/HML8VKRJU/shooter-rod-knob-you-customise

How to do it:
- head to the link
- top right will be a text box for you to type something in
- below the text box is a preview box in which using your mouse you will have to rotate the knob to see the view
- select the material in the top right

Note: this is currently on trial with Shapeways so not sure how long this will be available to do.

Have Fun
