stop locking thread and start taking action
« on: June 26, 2015, 07:13:46 PM »
Getting a little tired of decent threads starting, progressing and then turning into rubbish. I think no more warnings to people who have been repeatedly asked to calm down. Maybe suspension without warning may curb things I dunno. And I am not taking sides here or who is right or wrong. What do others think?

Heres how I see it and im probably one of the people the OP doesn't want to contribute but I will anyway.
I often take myself off the forum for a couple of weeks because there are posts that are just fantasy. I like this forum but I don't want to come on and read rubbish. theres enough real facts to keep the forum well and truly alive.
When I come back on, the rubbish is still there.. posts that conflict previous posts etc.. all stated as fact.
Ive got to the point where I don't really care anymore and ill point out discrepancies as they arrive. Many people have left this forum.. many of them were here from day 1 as I was.. they all left for a reason.
The " ignore" option was put here for a reason.
When posts are made that just don't add up or are in direct conflict to earlier posts then it needs to be addressed and its that addressing that causes vitriolic language and general nastiness.
Making stuff up on forums and having a negative effect is called trolling.
There is a reason why some people have a large amount of ignores to their name.

Go back 12 months and AP was full of restoration and help topics - love it!!!! #*#
I'm new to pinball and love the hobby and challenges it brings to my life. I've now completed 2 restorations with Threads and have 2 machines waiting to start.

But honestly the amount of pointless diarrhea on here lately leaves me well  *.*

Well done Eltimbo and his latest restore thread to bring this place back to reality. Keep it coming guys, cause I love learning from the exceptional work being detailed.

That's my 2 cents....

That, in a nutshell, was the whole idea behind AP

Again not taking sides but I am sure my friends here know my thoughts on members, but Ignore is useless if the thread is closed. Closing a thread rewards those who go off topic and hurts those that may be interested in the topic, and those penalized include friends of the offenders. So ignore is useless in this case.

I understand the frustration a person feels if they see injustice, lies, grand standing, whatever, but fuelling the offender (I think) is what the person(s) is looking for.......attention seeking.

It's annoying, frustrating for me too but lots of shit has happened to me in real life biz and personal life and have found it can't be changed and will continue to happen again and again. So I stop trying to change he world and now concentrate spotting the problem and making sure I don't caught up in it.

Maybe we can let those seeking importance, do their stuff, make no comments and maybe the sound of crickets might send them away or play nice.

Keep on topic and ignore stupid comments might stop the stupid comments.....if that doesn't work then maybe holidays from the forum might be in order for a lot of us.

Dunno????

+1 Agreed.

I try to keep away from those threads I see turning to crap but its frustrating when threads do go so far off topic in a negative way that they need to be split out from original threads and then in turn need to be closed. It's hard to ignore when good threads are hijacked.

There is a reason why some people have a large amount of ignores to their name.

Your post spells out why you keep causing fights Gavin.
Stop believing that you NEED to sit on a high horse in judgement of others and their posts all the time.
Talk about pinball. Stop talking about other members, other members personalities and stop picking arguments about what other people post. Who appointed you supreme judge over all other members.
You and another 3 or so also have multiple ignores against your name, and for a reason.

It's real simple. Talk about pinball. Stop attacking other members and their views because you have a differing view.

I guarrantee if you stop mouthing off about me or my posts or my life, there won't be any hassles on here.
Can you and the other 2 or 3 personality character assassins just talk about pinball.

Can you keep your personal comments to yourself just for 3 months.
Talk pinball. Stop acting like you are the King and the place will run fine.
If u stop attacking people, there won't be any arguments.

You and a few others can start right now by talking about pinball and pinball only.
I will watch with interest and see if u can help yourself.
Hopefully Pinsanity, Andypinboy and occasionally CC can also demonstrate from this minute forward a desire to stop the spiteful personal comments and I bet the forum runs fine every day for the next 3 months non stop.

I have placed you and the others mentioned on ignore so don't bother replying to me cause my days of entering into a discussion with the ignored are over.

If anyone paints a target on their back, by making certain posts in a public forum, be prepared to be shot at.
Take it like a man and/or woman and move on.

If it isn't broke, it isn't pinball.

I am not exactly sure of what u meant, but I will make this point.

No person, no member , comes on here to be anyone's "target".

There is absolutely no reason why anyone should be targeted or have a target placed on them.

People have different views and different beliefs and personalities. Embrace it, enjoy it and respect it.
No person should be ridiculed by one or five or 100 because they have a differing view.
This is a forum for friendly and respectful debate.
It's not a place to tear down others.

No one should have to take anything. This place is about sharing and promoting pinball.
It's not a place to target anyone. It's not a place to punish those who don't agree with you.
Targeting people or singling people out is discrimination and leads to heated arguments.

Everyone needs to understand we are all on the same team, personality differences or not.
Any person who enjoys hurting someone else's feelings is posting for the wrong reason.

I bet if everyone sticks to talking about pinball, the forum will continue to be the best pinball forum in the world.
It's time for anyone who holds a grudge to wipe the slate clean. We are all grown men for gods sake !

I hope the focus is pinball from tonight forward.

Well said, retropin and the ignore count observation speaks for itself.

The problem is that we are dealing with an individual who has decided to prioritise individual gratuitous ego masturbation over the greater good of community forum participation. This is why we constantly see threads get deliberately diverted to suit their own hubristic mindset and why they inevitably "turn to shit" and ultimately as a last resort get locked by the moderators thereby stifling decent forum participation.

The rub is that a personality type like that reads a thead like this and gets off on it as well as they can see that their repugnant behaviour is having a negative impact on both overall forum harmony and the generally positive interactions amongst most of its membership.

Maybe as a temporary solution the mods can set up a separate sub-section in the forum where an individual can feel the need to validate their self worth as the need arises, rather than constantly poisoning good threads with pointless anecdotes and self serving third party fantasy? I don't think in anyone's mind that this repeated repulsive behaviour qualifies as not only a character defect but bordering on a mental disorder so perhaps we should be looking to accommodate rather than futilely attempting to change it for the better. This way if an offending post makes its way into the main sections of the forum the mods can simply move the post to the newly created section without deleting the post or locking the thread. The post will still exist so there can be no spurious claims of discrimination and the rest of us can continue on with the thread discussion and the subsequent original raison d'erte of the forum itself.

Your entire post is yet another example of personality character assassination.
You didn't make another member look stupid with those words, you made yourself look insane.

Now you are talking about masturbation. What has that got to do with pinball.
Your entire post was offensive and a classic example of the problems the forum has.

You just went and tore down respectful calls from multiple members to make this place peaceful and without the personality attacks and made disgraceful comments about other members.

If u are upset that you were banned from the forum recently, and you continue to go to the lengths you have, then perhaps you need some counselling or forget the counselling and just become an adult.

I can't believe you just repeatedly started talking about masturbation and other ridiculous stuff on a pinball forum.
Now you are acting like a doctor for the masses with weird talk about masturbation.
What is wrong with you ?

How did that post of yours do anything to bring peace to the forum.
You are making up dellusional sick things. You are humiliating yourself Pinsanity.

It is obvious you do not want peace on the forum talking about the weird stuff you are thinking about.
At 45, you have absolutely sickened me.
Masturbation talk. Your not on a porno site here mate. Are you insane ?

never thought of that. Moving posts that may hijack a thread is moved quickly. Two outcomes may occur, such posts will stop or the mods will get so pissed that offenders find themselves having to visit other forums or take a good long cold shower. Thanks for the suggestion
