Theatre of Magic Cabinet Decal resto
« on: June 08, 2009, 02:59:15 PM »
Here is my attempt at doing cabinet decals. Please excuse the primative equipment used as I had no work horses or hoists etc so household furniture did the job. Also I didn't have confidence in pulling a pinball to bits and so did things with most things in place like playfield, head box, and simply re-assembled once a side was cured. Now I'd be a little more adventurous.

Also playing it safe I did the WET application option which work great in both result and ease. Just spray the decal on both sides and apply with a squiggy.

Hope you like the result. Thanks

First couple of pix show damage to the headbox. Damage to the machine was extensive with corners gone etc so builders bog became my friend. Also I use a hairdryer and strong finger nails to remove the decals

Then sand and bog and paint with gloss and light sand. I find the gloss helps applying th edecal as its slippery.

with the wet option lining up is easy as you have heaps of time. I firstly sized up the decal on the area without removing the backing cove to give me an idea or "game plan".

Then squiggy out all the excess "windex in my case" from centre to edges. Don't squiggy too much as you may squiggy out some of the adhesive as well. Then let dry and trim edges with a straight edge and sharp blade. Don't trim too close to edges, leave a small gap

Check out the damage to the coin door area. Again builders bog will fix it. I also marked the areas of damage so I don't forget to fill them. Also because there still electronics inside, I blocked off any holes so windex doesn't get in

The sides were also pretty damaged. Nice dining chairs held up the machine until I decided to use my coffee table  @@*

Pic 4 shows the tool i made to remove the rails. Just slide the wire under one edge of a rail and then let it rip. Good for building biceps

Thanks guys appreciate the comments. My rfm re-decal should be easy as taking things apart is a piece of cake. Just got to work out where to get the T-moulding from or how easy it is to put the original back. Arcade guys would know the answer to that one I think
