Just got caught for $248.00 on a $1298 order. Sad part was, it was three items (Pascal boards) that could just as easily been shipped in two lots as one is for another member, and then no GST / import duty at all!

It's something to keep in mind - if you are buying parts makes sure the total including the shipping cost, comes in below $1,000.00 au. If not, you are quite likely better off splitting your order (that is, holding off on some until later and purchasing separately) as the postage will more often than not be much less than the 15% applicable to pinball stuff (5% import duty plus 10% GST, and then on top of that a $48.00 Customs fee).

This also needs to be kept in mind when considering "bulk orders" for members - in most cases it will cost 15% more to buy in bulk than separately (if the separate items are each under the $1,000.00 threshold, postage included).

yep, sitting in Customs somewhere.  !!! But the forms and everything they need are done and I emailed them over this arvo, so hopefully they'll finish their journey in the next few days.  #*#

I hate  em

most people forget about this as most dont go over the 1000 limit
wait till you order a box of displays  or box of boards
and dont forget the $50.00 charge  for charing you the tax  and then the CC fee too
it all adds to the cost of importing parts and stuff

still i do agree it sucks big time

I got stuck with customs stuff back when the limit was $500.....it's a relief it raised upto $1k, but something to be warey of.
Sadly, most sellers/retailers overseas aren't prepared to send in multiple packages, so you may want to order all your large pricey things a week apart from eachother.

Filling in customs forms by yourself with no real knowledge of which books'n'charts too lookup is no fun.
The customs officlas WON'T help you fill in forms, but WILL audit what you've done afterwards (which they basically correct all your fu*kups anyway).

I've only been thru it twice, and hope to never again.

Yikes! Reading that reminds me of the scene from the Last Boyscout with Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans. :)

Joe Hallenbeck: Leather pants.
Jimmy Dix: Yeah.
Joe Hallenbeck: What's something like that run?
Jimmy Dix: Six-fifty.
Joe Hallenbeck: Six hundred and fifty dollars?
Jimmy Dix: Yeah.
Joe Hallenbeck: They're pants.
Jimmy Dix: Yeah.
Joe Hallenbeck: You wear them?
Jimmy Dix: YES.
Joe Hallenbeck: They don't, like, have a TV in them or something?
Jimmy Dix: Nope.
Joe Hallenbeck: I am very old.
