It is a passion of mine that I hope inspires other that think they "can't do it"... It CAN be done, and I get a real "kick" out of seeing other collectors start out with their first restoration... I do appreciate the kind words on my resto threads - it inspires me to find another 1% improvement - But keep in mind, I STILL want to learn from others, and that was one of the reasons for the site - to SHARE the knowledge.

It is also a privilege to work on Pinball machines - in fact - I don't see it as "work" !!

Steve from PBR is making a set of Spot Targets for the game, as there is a six week wait for the individual plastic target itself. A new set of shiny legs will compliment this machine..

Nino, two words. SHIT HOT.  That looks fantastic.  Where do you buy that rust product?  Also how do you clean rust of the playfield crome parts, like the small guides etc?

Ranex Rustbuster is available at bunnings - they have it in different quantities - I usually buy the larger size..

The small metal guides are initially cleaned with windex or Nifti - then I drop them in the tumbler for 4 hours.

A tumbler is a tool I use to polish my nuts while I drink Beer..

A tumbler is a tool used to polish metal parts. You need media (usually corncob) and cleaning media (I use Flitz).. Throw your cleaned metal parts in the tumber and switch it on for four hours. When you return, the parts look as new as the day you bought them..

I use my tumbler on every machine I work on..

Backglass

The Backglass is good for its age, but there is some cracking in the backlit areas. It did clean up OK, but, the decision has been made to have our resident Backglass Restorer to weave his magic. The new owner (Creech) is a fussy Collector, and due to the fact that everything around the backglass has come up so well, he wants the BG to be of the same standard. So I'm boxing up the glass this weekend and it will be sent ASAP.

Legs


The decision was made to buy NEW LEGS from Pinball Resource. Usually, this is cost prohibitive - But we made a "group" order and it came out cheaper. The legs were sent UPS, so they were here in four days.. I was totally impressed with the quality of the legs.. They are worth every cent, and just add that "final touch" to the machine..

Playfield

The only item left is the two spot targets. I will have to rivet the new faces on to the assemblies. The Apron is in VERY good condition, other than the rust that is UNDER the paint where the sticker once was.. The Apron will be sent to Gavin as well..







All done ! As mentioned, the Glass and Apron needs to be done as well as the spot targets. Apart from that, the machine plays like new !

Awesome work on this Sinbad Nino!

I have a Charlies Angels here to do soon, and there is a fair bit of rust on the metal parts on this one (same container as the Sinbad).

I was going to just use the tumbler, but I think I will use the rust remover first, then tumbler to polish.

The rust removal process was a learning curve, but as long as it saves a pinball from being parted out, I'm happy.

Gavin has the Apron and Backlass, so I hope he will have a thread soon !
