Not sure if those old light sockets are any good.  ^&^
Want to check those new sockets you have soldered in. ^&^
Well try Millsys Bulb Checker.
Just buy one of those universal charges ($24) solder a couple of alligator clips and there you have it.  $#$

Having trouble hearing that Beep when youre checking continuity, how about a light you can see for us deaf people.
Added this function to my bulb checker.
Materials used:
1) Voltage adapter
2) AV changer I had laying around
3) Old speaker plugs & leads
4) Old light switch I had laying around & PF bulb socket
5) 240v lead and plug
And an old wooden box.
