Some custom pin room decorations
« on: August 05, 2009, 10:29:50 PM »
Hey all,

Some of you will recall me mentioning I had sweet bugger all wall space left after I put the pins in my room.
On one side of the room I have 6 pinnies and the other side of the room has my Mame machine and ....well pretty much nothing else.
But I wanted to decorate the space that was available and damn it - decorate it I did  *)*

I have tried to make the most of a restricted area as well as customising it to make it all a little 'unique' to me.

I decided to make some replica backboxes with a selection of titles from a great era of pinball - they are approx 240mm x 220mm and protrude outwardly about 70mm at the top.......so from left to right we have (a) my custom made little shelf ......more on that later (b) my King of Kong poster signed by Walter Day himself - Yay (c) My row of 8 custom mini backglasses (d) My cheap cheesie , now customised , Pinball flouro (e) My digital photo frame that many of you have seen before- now with over 1600 pinball images (f) A second customised shelf.

Note all cables for frame and sign concealed in wall - power point hung from a light circuit ( yes it is an SPO for all you sparkies out there dont panic ) as there is no power available on that wall - this bit took me ages to get right.

Shelving

Here is a closer look at the shelves I made from scratch.
They may be small but its all that I could fit.......they each EASILY hold 3 or 4 beers.
I notice when people are here playing we have nowehre to put beers, coffee etc - they end up on the floor....I wanted something that looked good and matched the room theme.

These are made from a sheet of 16mm MDF and a sheet of 12mm MDF stuck together - I then have some .9 stainless strip glued to the face of it.
I HATE seeing shelf brackets and worked out a way to mount them so there were no visible supports - there is the SLIGHTEST bit of movement in them ( like less than half a mm ) and thats only if you grab it to intentionally try and wiggle it, if you place a cup on it the movement isnt even noticed.

I created some arcade artwork for the shelf and I got a sheet of 1.5mm perspex cut to the shape and simple laid it over the top.
All up cost for both shelves was about $50.00

Heres my King of Kong signed poster, Walter kind of started to write nicely and then it dribbles off into something that , so far, no - one has been able to decipher  :lol :lol :lol  Might be big points in that as a competition if I ever hold a meet  :lol :lol :lol

And lastly - here is the cheap Pinball sign - they come clear with no backing, I wanted it to stand out a little more so I made a black backing for it and put some plastic frame around it and painted it all black so its like the other framed things in the room. For $35.00 delivered it aint too bad I reckon.

Hope ya' all like it  *!@

Very tastefully done. You certainly have an eye to the aesthetic. I love to see pinfans like yourself creating well executed "peripherals" to enhance their games rooms.  ^^^
