Have tried cleaning my posts in the dishwasher - made no difference -as these posts are not available new, I decided to try something else, besides hand cleaning (Would take a week).
This is what i did - Hacked a length of wood off my wifes broom, attached the post to the end using the original post screw and buffed it on the grinder using the white cloth.

Great tip millsy,
 
I could not get rid of any black rubber marks cleaning by hand,
hope the wife is not too upset with half her broom handle missing  %.%

Mrs Pinnies4me would be pissed off - how would she get to the supermarket and back??

Mine only has her pilots licence.  She would be lost without the broom.
