3 ball games all round... I never ever saw a game which was five ball on location... ( might be a little younger than most here )

Funny you mention this because allot of blokes i know have their games set to five ball and i call them cheats !  %%$  !^!

No wonder everyone reaches wizard mode and vacation jackpot...   #@# ()  <.>

Isn't that the idea though - own your own machine, have the advantage of playing five balls and get through to parts of the game you wouldn't normally get to and get your money's worth out of the machine.  Why have it set to something that is going to limit what the machine can offer.  For me the choice is easy, if I have the chance of getting VJ on WH2O, I'll take the five balls.

Machines were only set to 3 balls to get more money from the punters.  If it were only meant to be a 3 ball game, there wouldn't be a 5 ball option.

I love this topic, I have seen it covered several times now and it always stirs thing up.  If you are easily achieving everything in the game on 5 balls, knock it back to 3.

GO THE 5 BALLS.

60,s and 70,s - Never seen a 3 Ball - All Ems of course.

There is a setting on Gottlieb 1960s EMs for 3 ball play.

Also Gottlieb Score Board from 1956 was only available as 3 balls per play (would give my right nut for this game)  :D

i agree with 5 balls.
i dot understand why operators have their pins set to 3 ball.
when i owned a black knight (1980 WMS) and had it on site it was first set on 3 balls then after 3 months i set it to 5 balls and the money it took in doubled.
lets face it back then (1987) if someone put 40 cents in a pin and played 3 balls and most of them drained pretty quick they would stand there and think what a waste of my money i will go and play galaga for 40 cents at least i will get more time for my money. but when my pin was set at 5 balls per game, 40c for 1 game & $1 for 3 games i found a lot more $1 coins in it. sure it had paid out more free games but at least there was more coinage in my pocket at the end of each month.

All my games are 90's
I used to doggedly set them on 3 balls (factory default)
Nowadays I make exceptions for hard bastards like CFTBL and set those on 5
BTW interesting poll!

I  recall you owning a JP and never reaching system shutdown on 3 ball.............you only experienced it by playing the game with the glass off and cheating. (frustrated cheater LOL)
I also remember your excitement as you reached system shutdown with my JP set at 5 ball with the glass on and not cheating.(Better way to achieve it) %.%

5 Balls all the way.
