Ant,

most common things to look for on a STTNG are the 3 green kidney shaped inserts, on the centre of the playfield, almost always have some sort of crazing, cracking or something wrong with them, the neutral zone hole is usually beat because of the gun launchers and these plastics ( link below)  are usually broken.

Also this game has alot of opto switches so check to see if they are all functioning.

hope this helps...

-The wiring to the guns are a problem as the harness gets worn when the guns rotate.  -The plastics are typical...look them over real good.

-Ramps, they are prone to cracks as most are but make sure you also check the subway ramp.  It gets a lot of abuse.  (the subway also has about a dozen optics as well).

-The drop target in the back...check it out thorougly as it is usually in bad shape mechanism wise.

-The "bird of prey" ship.  Ususally broke.

-Check the Borg ship for warping. (no not speed, the shape).

-The cabinet is prone to fading.
The ramp business was very very good to me.

Brilliantly engineered game.. But it is boring - Just my 5 cents !!!

Watch out for the AUX DRIVER board as well. The TIP 102s are nearly ALWAYS blown off the board. If the voltages is missing from either the two diverters, drop target or up target coils then the game will not play correctly. You can tell if there is an issue because the fuse will blow and then balls will be continually served.. Just going off memory here, but I don't think I've EVER played a working game...

Also check the up kickers to the wireforms. Make sure the ball gets all the way up, as these can be a troublesome and constant problem if not adjusted properly.

ask Nino more about these  he has done a few

we re wire ALL the guns  as you cant make them 100% without this.
jsut one small break and they only work 9 out of 10 times
better to take the few extra hours and do this properly

i had 3 in stock  2   sold the week before christmas
the last one is at Ninos   and he says it will be ready  this weekend .....

then I might give him BOTH the LOTRs  i have    1 is already sold to a member here too ...   well maybe  if he is nice to me

Subway Ramp optos and diverters MUST be working, Cannons MUST be re wired, BRs and Caps on the Driver board MUST be replaced. The opto boards on the ball trough assy MUST be working...

A hell of a lot of work for a game I don't like - I think you HAVE to be a trekkie...
