Decommissioning one for an upgrade
« on: May 09, 2010, 01:44:50 PM »
Time to decommission the 1940 STONER ANABEL for a better game in the line up. The Stoner machine is very bloody rare.. i have not managed to source another anywhere despite contacting collectors who specialise in these sort of machines. But fact is, its a flipperless game and doesnt get played at all and so just takes up room.

She fits in well with all the other woodies i have, but its time to store her away

So out of the line up she goes for what is considered to be the ULTIMATE woodrail to have... 1950 GOTTLIEB KNOCKOUT

Machine sits in workshop waiting for me...

Ive had KNOCKOUT for a while now... this game is near impossible to get in ANY condition. This one certainly needs a lot of work.
I dont intend to start restoring her yet.. i have far too much to get on with already. But i do need to make an inventory of whats needed and order from PBR.

The woodrails are missing..

Cracked shooter gauge

Ball push up missing..

The BG is stuffed.. repros available.. i know of someone with 3, but i need to ship it from USA

There are 3 figurines on this game... as you hit the bumpers, the 2 boxers box each other as playfield animation. When enough points are scored, one boxers falls backwards and the Refs arm goes up and down 10 times as bell rings.. thats then KNOCKOUT!! Boxer then stands back up and game commences... on this machine the Ref is sadly missing..

All is not lost here.. as same guy who has the spare BG's also is manufacturing new figurines... ive put an order in for a whole new set. Repro PF is also available but not necessary.

I cant help myself with these old girls.... i HAVE to put them together just to see if they will work... shes real dirty inside and needs a thorough clean up

Game counter has been taken out of circuit.. ill put this back in when the time comes, but shes had 18999 games before this got disconnected

Inside back box looks good - usual grime etc and so complete rebuild required here also... notice coil missing from top left chime.. switch that fires this gets locked on and so coil burns out... not sure ive ever had a game where there isnt a missing or burnt coil here

The artwork on this game is awesome.. has a classic comic book style

Overall, this PF is in great shape.. its 60 years old now and so immaculate is definately NOT to be expected.
Major wear spots are on right and left hand sides.. this will be restored by myself. Someone has already attempted the RHS

.

Guess it had to be... the horrid BROWN paint over on the cabinet!!!!

I firmly blame the 70's for ALL the brown paint overs that have occured to pinballs... luckily though, i can make stencils for this game. A fellow collector has already sent me the images i need to make this happen.

Well.. its not quite a restore yet..... need to order MANY parts for this... and a game of this callibre MUST have the FULL treatment. This game is ranked #2 for its era, just behind MERMAID... you either do this job to your fullest capabilities or not at all.. its that kind of a machine... nothing will not be gone over.
This will be a LOOOONG restore thread.. ill probably take over a year to restore this.. but the final value of this game will be in the range of $8000 - $10000, not that ill ever sell it though... this really is the Holy Grail of woodrails.

Shes in position and waiting for the strip down.... oh and no - she doesnt work ( well its always a long shot anyway!)

The amount of crap you see lying on all the pins is everything ive accumulated while fixing the Music Merchant #1 Juke box... its amazing the stuff you require

Awesome - I can't wait for updates on this gem. I have a box full of "push up" assemblies - I hope that one of them will suit - give me a part number !

BTW - I have more Juke bits to send you for you model juke.

Could be the longest resto thread on AP ?

Its a huge restore ahead... the more i look at the PF, the more i see needed done....waiting for parts will be the main game, till then i have a few PF restores that have dragged out and need clearing up.

have just emailed my pal.. ill make the stencils and put them on the site, but i can get NEW playfield, NEW backglass, NEW figures... shooter gauge and ball push up ( may well take you up on that offer) i should be able to source good originals of... PBR do a great job, but the plastic just aint right on these parts and i want 1950's HARD plastic, not the brighter red softer stuff that the repros are.

Juke parts - yes!! I need some. Ive got my dad working on this with me.. we have gone to parts i dared not go to and still we are back to where we started
