My second pin has arrived - Pro football
« on: December 27, 2008, 11:53:29 PM »
Hi Guys,

another pin to add to my collection. I will post pics tommorrow but just had to tell everyone.

The problem with it is that it doesnt work  !!! .. The guy i got it off said it was one of the score coils so will have to take it apart (dont know how  :lol) but will give it a go.

Well it powers up but stays in tilt  !@#

I played with the tilt plomb to make sure that wasnt touching but i'll have a closer look tommorrow. Not sure if the score mechanism is responsible for the game not getting past the tilt and resetting.

And yeah i've been bitten by the pin bug pretty bad. I need to put the brakes on for a while and restore what i have... but no-one believes me  :lol

Gottliebs have 2 relays in them

TILT and Q

The TILT is sometimes labelled 'T"

If the plumb is not touching, then id be looking at the TILT relay - make sure each leaf switch is doing what it should by moving the relay over with your finger.

Without the TILT relay and Q relay doing their job properly, Gottliebs will never work

Ok here are some pics of my new pin.. definately bit off more than i can chew and terrified that i'm gonna electrocute my self. It is pic intensive so if its too much please let me know and i'll tone it down in the future.

Front:

Top Playfield:

Middle Playfield:

Bottom Playfield:

Side:

Coin mech area, The dangling wire is what Dan nearly electrocuted himself on yesterday, he wasnt too fussed but i got real scared  :lol

Score reel: i guess i now know why it doesnt work, missing side circuit and i cant see where the wires are that would attach to the circuit... no idea

The guts:

Like i said im sacred shit less to play around. When i switch it on it powers up and the motor clicks around quite a few times but then the tilt light comes on. Im afraid i will need someone to come and have a look at this for me...  !!!

You should be mighty pleased with that pickup. The playfield looks A1. You will get plenty of help around here - just ask. I'm sure there will be someone more than willing to help you out.

Unfortunately I've never worked on a EM, but this place is the gold mine of guru's with these types of machines..

Best advise I can give is sort one problem out at a time, have a really good read of:

http://www.pinrepair.com/em/index.htm

Then read it again!  Second of all, ask questions and take pics.  You dont want to damage anything further.  If you can get a hold of the schematics it will also help.  I had no experience at all with them previously, but after asking questions here, getting answers then looking at machine with schematics it all starts to make sense.

Goodluck!

Hmm, is that a coil on with the score reel?  It looks a bit funky....! !@#

HA! Too many pictures.
Oh, man. That's a good one.
Sometimes you guys kill me.

Looks like a fun game!

Woops. Sorry for the smiley bonanza.
I feel more like I do now than I did when I first got here.

Rob,

The lose wire is for the "coil lock out" coil. It should not be floating around as it will short and cause all sorts of weird issues. For now - either solder it back on to the coil (test the coil is not a dead short), or use some electrical tape to cover the wire.

Second issue is the burnt out coil. That would be for the "10,000" score reel - or the score reel to the LHS ? That is most likely burnt out because there was a playfield switch stuck permanently "on", or the 10,000 unit did not dis engage. I do have a schematic and access to my dis assembled Pro Football machine. I guess we need a coil first up ?

I'll have a look for my schematics...

BTW - the score reel is not missing the board - not all the score assemblies have the board !

The coil is a A-9154 Scoring coil - and they are difficult to source locally - you might need to source one from Pinball resource. Did you remove the coil bracket (2 screws) ?

Check the Relay labelled "K" - which should be in the Head - this is the "10,000" relay... Is it held in ?

The bracket was sitting in the headbox and already removed. But what im worried about is the missing side circuit board?? like the others have. And of course the coil looks burnt out and rubbish. I will check relay k but because im a newb i dont know what to check for. I guess i'll have a play and see if it "feels right"
