Tony- one thing i have to admit is that the artwork on pins from the early 50's into the early 70's, especially the 50's, is gorgeous.

I am currently reading Michaels new book and the artwork on some of those 50's games is absolutely stunning. Not to mention, as basic as the layouts are some look to be real challenging in gameplay.

One thing to mention, IMHO, if Roy had the drawing of the hands down pat, these backglass' would have been masterpieces, although they are not far off !

I am starting to see they beauty of the artwork myself now where before i never gave them ( older ems/artwork ) the time of day !

Yes, they are beautiful and even much more so all lit up in a dark room.

Not only was Roy Parker a master artist, so was George Molentin who is often overlooked. Maybe because Williams pins from the same vintage don't seem as collectable and were made at around 1/3 the production run of Gottlieb.

Molentin did the art on over 150 pinballs and would be my favourite artist.

As for gameplay, the single player woodrails are (in the majority of cases) much better pins to play. They look easy but far from it, have mentioned before if you can play a game from the 1950 - 65 era well you can play the 'newer' games blindfolded.

I have another 3 woodrails on the way and hopefully they will all be here soon. That will take the total to 14 woodies....and can see the day when all of my 1960s pins will be sold to make room for nothing but woodrails

I agree Tony they are a thing of beauty.  Mental note to self must get a woodrail.

Have a certain innocence of the era in the artwork as well.   As we have said before Tony, if only they could speak they would have a real story to tell.

What really is disappointing is that I really wanted a "Mermaid" Woodrail 10 years ago...

I don't really see the asking price for this game - like it is valued at US$10,000 (that is TEN THOUSAND US DOLLARS) - that is just insane - would rather 7 or 8 other real nice titles for that

CPR made a BEAUTIFUL repro playfield, commissioned by a collector with a short run of 50 playfields.. The priviso, from memory, was that the collector had to pay for at least 10 playfields. Of course, they were all snapped up. I was going to buy one (US$300) and just mount it on my wall..
