Storing a NOS playfield
« on: September 12, 2010, 05:13:27 PM »
just like some advice on storing an NOS playfield, should i stand it up or lay it flat.and also some advice on clearcoating if you look at the pics below you will see sega put a metal plate on the playfield,i was wondering how clearing upto the plate would go and also if you see the size of the x insert would i be better off using an acrylic clearcoat opposed to a 2k clear as i have read on the forums 2k can be hard on inserts, any advice or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks.

Hi,

This is the advice that the Illinois Pinball Company gave me when I asked about storing the repro MM pf that I got from them:

"My best advice is as soon as you get it home if you are not installing right away store it either in your rails or on a flat surface art side down with the paper protecting it and weight spread evenly across the back of it."

NOS - lay flat under bed - either in the box it came or in bubble wrap

REPRO - Remove it from the box, place it upright or flat - does not matter. Let the "air" fully cure the playfield for a month, then you can place it back in its box and lay it flat.

I had a repro field laid flat and noticed it warped a little. Tim recommends they are best stored on their edge. That's how I've got them now anyway.

Tried a few standing up in their boxes but found they will warp a little over time so made a flat trolley and i just keep on stacking them.

No chance of warping or damage and they live under one of the machines so their out of the way.

I guess we dont have to wonder where all the nos playfields in the world went. ^^^

I've been storing the playfield standing upright  in it's marco shipping box, checked it again today and it has fared well, hopefully will find time to fit it in the next 12months or so.
