Has the game been in working order up until this fault ?

Can you post a picture of the area.

Page 18 in Part II of the magic castle manual,  item 53
"Bobina D 355-S 1000. D 14-S 6000"
Looks like it is a dual wound coil?

Looks like the gate and gate lamp have their own connector on the interface board - "CN17t".
Other than that I'm not too sure.

Have you got a copy of the schematics as well as the manual?

yes,the return wire blk/white when connected to either side of the eos switch connect points on the coil, causes the gate to stay loked open, even in attract mode.ahh could the transistor be bad?

Looks like transistor Q17 drives the Gate coil.  You could try testing with a multimeter.

Also see http://www.zaccaria-pinball.com/gen2/index.html as Marty suggested.

"The most common failures on 2nd generation Driver boards is solenoid drive transistors."

Hi Damien.
Might pay to check your coil resistances also before reconnecting it, once you have repaired the driver issues.
Resistances should be 10Ω / 550Ω (for original coil)

A shorted coil will take out the transistor again.

Good Luck.
Steve.

!@#i am still learning, steve do i take these readings with wires and diodes still connected?plus i am still not 100% sure where the wht/ blk wire goes on coil,as it was not connected.i have 2 purple on the top lug and a yellow(for eos sw) on the middle and bottom lugs .i asume the driver 0 v wire (wht/ blk)should go on the bottom lug.can you confirm?

Don't worry, I'm still learning too.

Just use a multimeter set to Ohms and check each pair of lugs (centre lug is common) with all wires and diodes still connected and power off.  If you get a zero Ohms reading (Short), you may need to disconnect the diode and recheck to ensure that the short is not caused by a faulty Diode. Also you may need to activate the EOS switch to get a reading on one side. The actual readings may not be all that important at this stage but the main thing is that neither side has a complete short circuit.(Zero ohms)

Since the coil has been replaced already, it might be fine but it will certainly pay to check.

I will check the schematic to see if I can find out where the wht/blk wire goes, but I don't think it goes on the coil. !@#
