Pinball Museum
« on: October 01, 2010, 01:48:46 PM »
Does anyone know anything about the Pinball Museum being built in the gold coast by Alan Tate and Michael Shalhoub. Should I plan my holiday to go there or is it still being built?

My guess is that by late 2011 or early 2012 it will be open. So what Gavin said! I will be in QLD Christmas 2011 if all goes to plan - here's hoping it will be open by then.

I was told the complete opposite and that red tape might stop its construction !@#

Yes, i heard that also. In fact, its council fees and red tape that is stopping anything happening on the Gold Coast right now.
Last i spoke to someone who visited recently.... the main structure was being put in place.

Until i see it for myself though, i keep an open mind

OK, if the main structure is being put in place that is a start, and good news as far as I am concerned.

I live on the gold coast and i can tell you nothing has started. Nothing is council approved. To my knowledge, the land hasnt even been purchased yet.

The whole thing is an idea, and not yet reality. We all wish that something would happen sooner, but land is expensive, buildings cost many many hundreds of thousands of dollars, and council to date has not yet approved anything. I wish Allan the very best with this project, but it still could be many many years away.

A museum in the heartland of Pinball, being Melbourne would also be a great idea oneday.  ^^^

Apparently Gav the Mt Tamborine site wasnt considered a right fit and they were looking at somewhere closer to the coastal strip.

I wonder if Allan has a website or some kind of way to give an official update. I would love to see this pinny museum get off the ground.

My searching has brought up nada in regards to the pinball museum apart from what we have already seen and a reference on a Mt Tamborine website as a future attraction.

AJ, Mt Tamborine is a funny place. One of those places up the top of many many kilometres of winding roads, covered with little cafes and hippy shops etc etc, and a bit of a touristy type area for the grey nomads, attracting alot of older people. Literally up a very steep mountain for anyone who has tried driving up there.

I think Mt Tamborine would be a bad place to build it cause of the location (off the beaten track) and I also reckon the greenies who mostly live there would definately oppose anything like it. I know recently, a government dept tried building a youth club for the obvious reasons of looking after the youth and there were people protesting with placards (average age of apx 60 yrs plus) and the whole thing went down in flames. I would be extremely surprised if Allan ever got approval in that area from the gold coast council.

I heard he was looking at something much closer to the tourist strip which would make more sense for $$ and access.  I will ask a friend who knows one of his techs for an update.
