Another Lady Luck Resto
« on: October 23, 2010, 04:09:01 PM »
Yeah I know , Ho Hum , you've seen one of these before .
What are the odds though of doing 2 back to back restores of the same 42 year old game ? I have no choice, my cousin is very keen to buy this game (will be hist 1st Pin) and has already given me a $500 cash deposit to motivate me to get started on it .

While I am waiting for my PBR order I have cleaned the PF and am about to start on the cab repaint.
Such a shame none of the previous owners took a mere couple of hours to strip and clean the PF , it was filthy, the worst one I have come across so far.

Here's some before and after pics of the PF cleaning .. I used Tea Tree oil for the 1st time .. amazing stuff.

Now the cabinet .
Has 2 really bad splits down the full length of the left side and another split on the right (not as bad)
Will be repainting it in the same colours I used on my own game (as I have left over paint )  ^^^

Nice one will watch with interest-you have a big job ahead how will you fix the cab split just with filler or glue?

Gday Peter.

Will glue, then screw brackets on the inside to hold it together (hopefully). Then some filler on the outside and sand.
I haven't seen a cab this badly split before.

Cheers
Dave

Gday Nino . Yeah its a stepdown . Thought I'd try the tea tree cause this PF was so dirty .. made the cleaning much easier as it turned out.

Is the plan to remove the Step Down and reconfigure the factory transformer ?

Gee you're keen Dave, but I guess at least you'll be a "bit" familiar with the game!  Will follow this thread with interest.

Looks like the cab split is below the level of the play field support rails, I wonder if you could just cut a new piece to fit inside the cab under the rails and glue and screw this to the inside - might give more support and rigidity than brackets and when painted may not stand out as much?

Yeah Dave .. I will be looking at that option .. as you say would probably provide better support .. will be getting back into it today

Well here's my backyarder repair on the badly split side.
It ain't pretty but the side is now solid .
I just used what I had lying around in the garage.
Now for some sanding some filler and some paint .
Will probably paint the sides on the inside too to make my bodgy repair look at bit nicer.

Before and after pic of the Playboard . The coil for the Lock relay is pretty burned , probably because it lost its return spring somewhere along the line (which I didn't find) . I've swapped it with the one from the Tilt relay and put on another return spring from my spares stash
