My wife caught me cheating but is it really cheating???
« on: February 12, 2011, 09:05:19 AM »
Was playing Flash last night when the wife came in ( it's ok she is allowed to come in when she is cleaning or bringing me a drink ) anyway she noticed that I reset the game after the first ball and she said that I was cheating.
I said its not cheating because I was the only one playing and I always reset after a bad first ball....doesnt everyone do this its not really cheating is it??

I also have 2 rules when I'm playing by myself;

1-I'm not allowed to stop playing without leaving at least 1 credit on the machine that I have won (or matched if desperate).

2-If I reach a certian score (each machine the score is different) I win an ice cream.

LOL!

Cheating?? is that possible??

On many of the 50's games if you dont get a good first ball then its impossible to achieve most of the specials.... is a bit disappointing to know you have a further 4 balls and youll never achieve the games goal.... so SOMETIMES i reset on these games.

Playing an SS or EM... it can all be done on last ball... so each ball is valuable.
CENTAUR is a bitch! can have 2.5mil on first ball and then zero on last 2 - is a killer!

So resetting is not a cheat id say.. its just chasing a better game.

I nudge all my pins to prevent ball drain etc... its an essential part of ANY EM game.. even SS for that matter. My wife reckons this is cheating, but its only cos she cant do it.

I have trouble here it seems... if i tell her to get me a beer i get told to "piss off" and shed never even dream of cleaning up in the games room

i do the very same thing, if im playing on my own and im after a big score and have a crap 1st ball i'll start a new game... sometimes several times in a row  :lol

I had a girlfriend once who used to say nudging the machine was cheating, she would play against me and never do it for that reason (and that she didnt know how). I used to explain that it was a part of playing pinball and she would say ohh bullshit!  %.% i can remember a few times when she beat me WITHOUT any nudging of the games  !@) and boy would she rub it in %.%

While it is not the same as taking the glass off, I don't think it is the done thing when trying to set high scores*.*  Put it this way, would you do it if you had to pay for your games?

In saying this, I have been known to push the credit button way before the 'game over' light is lit !@)

cheers

Cheating? I'd say yes for the "if you were paying in an arcade" argument.  also if you were an operator would you refund the coin for a bad first ball!

At home, if I have a bad early ball I try to practice sillier, riskier shots.  Also a bit game dependant.  For Firepower on three ball where you need to build locked balls it's a problem. I also have a Wild Life where you can have any ball as a cracked and fill the bonus tree, if it's last ball with double bonus then you'll still get a good score so I'd play through normally.

definitely wouldn't have done it if paying for the games on location somewhere :lol and resetting the game after the 1st ball,  I CAN honestly say that i have NEVER set a new high score doing this. i usually end up walking away in disgust  ^&^ I never reset a game after a bad 1st ball if i have visitors here playing  *.* if i have a bad 1st ball (or any ball for that matter) i usually have to eat humble pie and keep playing @.@ that happens a fair bit actually.. i end up with indigestion  :lol

I've had people here, and playing a game with me where they have had the 1st ball go out quickly and they've said 'i wanna start the game again'  :lol

Nudging or manipulating the machine is perfectly acceptable in my book.

Im sure players of other sports do similar things to gain an advantage.

And yes youré right women get pissed off cos they cant do it which totally blows that old argument they always  throw at us guys where they say men cant do 2 things at once. Thats bullshit we can play a game while simultaneously pushing/ nudging the game and taking a swig of beer ( and maybe a smoke too) . ()

even when I played in the arcades back in the 80's I would reset if i had a crappy first & second ball. as long as i had a few credits up from previous games.

nahhhh, i dont do it.

I personally believe not interfere-ing in the game makes u a better player. I say play the game the way it was meant to be played. If u get a bad first ball, try harder on the second.  a 3 ball game means 3 balls. A five game ball means 5 balls. Re-setting aint going to make u a better player. Knowing u cant reset so to speak would make u try much harder on each n every ball. Each to their own.

Also, i dont like it when the young kids have a bad first ball and just turn the machine off and then turn it straight back on, its a great way to blow fuses.

I don't think it's cheating but it is a bit like giving up.
If you get a good score on your first ball but the second one drains, do you reset the game?
Of course not (well I don't), some of the best scores I've ever got on my machines were all from only one or two balls.
The point is, you never know how you'll go on the second or third or whatever ball.
Who knows, you may have missed out on some of the best games or scores you've ever had.
