How hard is it to touch up a cabinet?

Have an old Maverick with a few decent chip and scratches. Reckon if I knew the right type of paint required I could fix it up. Do colour charts exist online? Or do you need to take samples to paint shop? Any suggestions? Or just leave it alone? Thx.

From memory the Maverick's are screen printed directly onto wood - not vinyl (ie decals)...

To in reality, touchups are possible.  But - if for example you're doing the brown on the main body of the cabinet, I would suggest you would have to mask up all the detail work inside and spray the entire area in one hit.  Very difficult to get an exact match.  Once you've done it, you should clear the area for protection.  Not a small job.

Sometimes its better to leave it alone, as touchups can look worse!

Maybe post some pics of the areas your talking about to give us a better idea.

Yeah is on the wood. Will take some snaps. Not too bad to be honest. I wouldn't want to do a crap job. So any attempt would be a good crack.

Why the designers chose poo brown for this pin is anyones guess, but i really do like the Maverick pinball. (maybe brown is supposed to give it a cowboy feel or something ?)

Like Marty said, tape up n give it a go. Get a sample of the brown first and test it somewhere. I think you will have to invest in a airbrush kit.

There have been a few different posts as to different types of airbrush set ups. Even the local TAFE runs courses on spraypainting etc. A good skill to learn to bring the best out on every pinball.

Photos of MAVERICK would be good.    Even before n after shots are always popular on here.

I reckon get handy with a cheap airbrush set and a bit of practice and it will be bonza. There are alot of videos around on "how to" use airbrushing successfully.

Practice makes perfect. Thats what i am going to do with a recently acquired set myself. If u had to pay someone else, it would be too dam $$ expensive so it looks like a few of us are going to have to become self taught.lol

Bunnings can also colour match with their computer paint analyzing software which will be a big help. Definately worth giving it a go.

I would not recommend a cheap airbrush (depends what you mean by "cheap")  . I brought a $22 set from bunnings and it is crap. I ended up taking advice from Gavin (Retropin) and bought a dual action set off eBay worth over $180 for $84 delivered with an air flow adjuster.

I've been teaching myself with some help from Gavin and Timbo and the results depend on the quality of the airbrush and the paints. It's great fun as well

Can anyone reccommend a good brand or recent kit name they have purchased for Air-brushing. Even the ebay seller Nino would be good.

Thanks Nino for the airbrush purchasing info. Thats the next thing i will buy and have a go at.

PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT is what i am telling myself, although, I know deep down i have no talent with things like this at all. 

It may take a decade for me to get good enough to ever get near a real pinball machine with it.  Thanks for the links.

I assume you are referring to the ball shooter spring ?

It is one of the easiest maintenance jobs you will ever do on your machine. Do you have a manual for you game ? All you need to do is check the part number of the spring. You will find the inner and outer springs here ;

Remove the rubber tip. Remove the clip and the inner spring pops out. Replace it with the new spring. Put the clip back on and you are done ! You can remove the shooter rod and clean off any dirt or lubrication which can make the action slugggish.

Ok new springs sorted. Now, my vuk is kinda sticking now. Is that just as simple? Takes a while for a ball to be recognised now n then.

Most likely an adjustment. There might be a mini switch that needs to be adjusted so that the switch is fully depressed when the ball falls in the VUK.
