THE DAILY GRIND ! Am I alone ?
« on: June 15, 2011, 10:39:24 AM »
I was just wondering whether you guys had a similar daily grind, "the pinball daily grind". A good practice for morning before work, or for an hour or so after work.

Jump on computer with a cuppa, and have a quick look at the various websites to see for any updates or changes that may be of interest to my collection >

* check out Marco"s site
* check out Bay Area
* check out Mark C's site
* check out Waynes site
* check out Ebay for Pinball
* check out pinball news
* check out Aussie Pinball

Play a few games on a pinny, then go to bed. I know its sounds like alot of work, but its 10 to 15 mins per site, and u would be amazed at just how many new parts or updates happen on all the sites.

Am i the only member who religiously checks out whats happening, here n there n everywhere in the pinball world ?  !@#    ^^^ ^^^ ^^^

My Daily Grind is mostly AP related ;

Check out PMs
Check out threads
Read & respond to Email
Check RTBB
Check PBR
Check CPR
Check RGP
Check Pinball News

I used to check eBay as part of the "grind" but it is always the same overpriced pins that are relisted.

Then start again after lunch and Dinner.

I work in the garage from 5:00 - 9:00 PM every night (need my fix at the end of a working day).

As the body gets older, the brain needs more food and the body less ! lol

Imagine if u the internet was taken away for say a 3 month period   !@#  you would have to go back to the old days and buy the newspaper daily which was the window to the outside world, before the internet. I used to read it daily on the train and always miss my friggin stop. Now i just stay on the internet and the wife yells out
"you took too long, u missed out"  && &&   (friggin pinball)  ^.^

p.s - Nino (strangeways) is even more crazy than me. (then start again after lunch and dinner)   ^&^       I feel much better now.  ^^^

You guys need a life  *%* %.%

 %.% %.% && &&

Honestly - I don't know what I'd do without pinball, AP and email. I think this is a healthy option and I recognize that it IS an obsession / addiction. There is a balance - Work and family come first, but ALL my spare time is spent on Pinball and with pinball people. All the friends I grew up with now have either a pinball or a video game (like a 60 in 1) that I provided them with.

I used to go fishing and I've got custom rods and competition reels. I took that very seriously for a while, and I still enjoy a trip or two every year.

I enjoy my morning routine of checking out the scene.

goodolddays, you are correct.   ^^^  two or three hobbys at the same time is probably mentally healthier. (but after bloody pinball, there is never any money left).   @.@

It is scary to think there are quite a few other members who actually partake in the daily pinball grind. you crazy addicted bastards.  ^^^ ^^^ ^^^

Yes, most of the above resonates with me also.

Can't even guess the last time I spend the whole day WITHOUT pinball (that's sad, isn't it!).  Usual checks are of course this forum (probably at least twice a day), ebay, vendors sites (PBR, Bay Area, Marco, etc).

But ...... as I currently have 6 pins going for restore ...... jeez!!!  Restorations just SUCK the hours out of you.  Definitely been spending 90% of my daily "pinball time" on restoration.  Sometimes it just drives me crazy, but as the examples of the restorations shared on this site have many times "set the bar level", it does influence me to spend more time than I thought I would at it!  Part of me can't wait for the endless resto hours to eventually end, but then I have a feeling I will be hungry looking for the next resto after that!?  Can't win  ^&^ .... but as Nino said above, need to keep the balance with pins and family.

I can relate to those hours (and days) sucked up by resto's . Just finished my 3rd cabinet repaint and swore I won't do any more but just know that I will sooner or later  *.*

No offence intended guys:
I don't see the point WHY people need to check the parts-sites daily???
big time-waster...

If i need a part, i see who has it, and buy it, takes 5-10 mins....
WHY oh WHY do i need to see new parts arriving daily for???
Seeing most sites have notification services, or email the site to be informed if part xxx ever comes in...not hard...

I'm simply saying if you're running short of hours in the day with hobby and family balance, you REALLY need to identify uneccessary activities and eliminate them.

As i said, not trying to offend anyone, or having a go, just a little 'wake up' for some ;-)

anyhoo,
MM.

Very much agree.  I should have clarified that "the daily stuff" is more around this forum, ebay, and restoration (at least for me).  For parts, I really only check these sites out when looking for a part or information on a part (which is not daily, but easily at least a few times a week - probably due to my current restoration work).

Marty, the reason its important to check some of the parts sites daily, is that sometimes only 1 or 2 of the very very last parts can be listed and gone very quickly.

**Example, no bugs bunny brand new playfields on any site for the last 2 years. Jumped on Marco's one morning , and bang, 1 x brand new NOS playfield placed up, and the last one ever. Their notification email system is weeks/months behind etc. If I hadnt of jumped on daily, well, you know the answer. NO Part.  The 2 minutes of time was well worth it.etc

So, its not a waste of time checking parts sites sometimes daily "just in case", espescially if u score that elusive part..  ^^^  Like the Lotto, got to be in it to win it.  ^^^
