Scanning Playfields!
« on: June 20, 2011, 02:05:29 PM »
No... I'm not currently scanning a playfield... but I am considering it ^&^
I'm having trouble deciding how big a playfield is... scanners are in mm,
I do believe if I can get a A0 scanner it should fit :lol But i dont think they make scanners that big... They make paper that big! http://www.worldwide.com.au/formats.htm
I was thinking about my Wild fyre resto... http://aussiepinball.com/index.php?topic=5669.0
maybe restoring a playfield is beyond me %.%

They do make scanners big enough, but good luck in finding one

There is a printer / scanner place in Newcastle that has a scanner about 1200mm - 1300mm wide and only 200mm front to back that can scan an item that is up to 20mm thick, 1000mm wide and 6metres long. I got my Creature speaker panel scanned a little while ago so I can experiment with the leds light mod. They scanned the file in as a PDF at 26.5meg but can do a much higher res if required at a bit more cost -  scan cost about $10 (attached a 300kb down sized version to show some results). I asked them the question a little while ago if they could do a playfield and since in runs through rollers it has to have all the staples and nut inserts removed (as it can damage the rollers) but it is possible to do.

This printer place does specialise in architecture work and signage hence the range of large format printers and scanners.

I intend to do my Skateball playfield very soon as I bought a spare playfield from Italy and am in the midst of removing mylar and gunk and accessories off the back so to scan and in the future create playfield decals so I can do up my main playfield and then clear coat.

Let me know if I can help at all.

Sound reasonable pricing
I am about to scan a backglass with an old a4 flatbed scanner with the lid removed (I did use it to scan bumper surround art) - I will be scanning it in sections, stitching it & adjusting the colours in photoshop. This may work on a PF. Will let you know how i go.
What were youre plans once it is scanned -stencil,vinyl overlay ?

I use the color copieer at work A3 scans at 600 dpi.
After hours of course  #@#
6 scans make up the whole playfield
Please remove all T-Nuts as to not scratch the glass.
I do this after I sand the playfield, before clearcoating.

Good point..probably why it is still sitting at $20.

I paid a hell of a lot more for mine.  &^&

Great tool although mine now scans with light and dark lines through it and i have no idea why... means the image pretty much has to be completely redrawn.

These units are still sold in NZ ( or were last i checked) for some reason its the Australian market that got pulled.
Youll be able to pick up a power supply in NZ no problem...

The power supply cord can be purchased in Aus direct from HP.

I got one a couple years ago.

Good luck whoever gets the scanner. I have the partnumber somewhere here if anyone needs it

Found this post in an other (common Arcade) forum.

Being given away for free in NSW just over a year ago.

FREE HP 4670 scanner (Lower Blue Mountains NSW)

    Hey Guys,

I have a HP 4670 scanner up for grabs. I've been told that it is not repairable, but you never know some one here might be interested.
It is complete in it's box with the negative scanner and leads. It doesn't have a power supply (didn't come back from the repairers).

This is for pick up only.

    Cheers.

The seller has listed the item as being complete and in working order as per the eBay listing guidelines ;

"Used: An item that has been used previously. The item may have some signs of cosmetic wear, but is fully operational and functions as intended. This item may be a floor model or store return that has been used. See the seller’s listing for full details and description of any imperfections"

The power supply is definitely not in the picture and it is useless without it. I have two scanners, one with a power supply and one without. I've not been able to track down a replacement power supply.

I will look into the availability of the power supply, as it would be good to have a spare. These scanners are awesome.
