Excellent Product To Clean Mylar Residue
« on: August 18, 2011, 11:20:39 AM »
Guys,

My wife uses Bosisto's Eucalyptus Spray around the house for pretty much everything.  I tried it yesterday on a Phoenix playfield that had some mylar residue along with some pretty heavy built up grunge that had stuck to the residue in places as well.  It was the best thing I have used so far to clean the residue off and didn't seem to effect the artwork at all.

Not sure how much it costs but it should be available from your local supermarket.  I would recommend it to anyone doing some mylar removal in the future.

Eucalyptus is just about the only product I have not used for mylar residue cleanup, so I'm keen to have a trial.

Thanks for the tip, Blair  ^^^

Cool, i've never seen the spray-can before, but my folks have use parrot-brand eucalyptus-oil for a century. ;-)

I used it extensively for cleaning old sticker-goo off old bikes, skateboards, toys etc etc.....

Ahhh, I thought you might have noticed it.  Not too bad a machine really.

I am almost done with the playfield.  Just need some more rubbers to get the same colour rubbers throughout, some new lane guides and that will be about it.  There is only 1 x display working 100% so I might look into buying a new set of LED displays.  I have had the back of the cabinet replaced and will need to look at re-stencilling down the track.  Someone had tried to remove the mylar and stuffed it up.  There are a few spots where the artwork has lifted but the mylar has been torn here and there which is a shame.  Plenty of wax still to go into the playfield to moisten it up and it should be good for a while.

I have been a bit slack with pics during the clean up but there are more on photobucket if you are interested.

This is the only pinball machine my wife has ever stopped me bidding on. (dam, i am going to kill her).

Maybe you will sell it to me one day Blair ? (keep me at the top of the list if u ever sell it).   #@#

Looks nice. It has come up very well indeed for a 1978 model.   ^^^ ^^^

I'm about to clean up a Flash playfield and did a search on mylar removal. Came to this thread. Thanks. Will pick up some eucalyptus tommorrow.
